new to the burn
My name is Bram.
I have heard stories from friends about burning man , and am hoping to attend next years event in Nevada. I would love to hear personal experiences. I'm also looking for a theme camp to set up with.
a little about me:
I'm a Nichiren Buddhist, wood (all found) and leather craftsman, and am into the steam punk side of life. I've lived a little bit of everywhere, but mostly in north carolina. I've grown up in the forests of the Appalachian mountains and learned in the southern california desert.
I look forward to meeting you my new friends.

Re: new to the burn
Hey Bram!
You might like the Experiences at Burning Man forum. It's half-full of complaining, 'cause this remains the internet rather than the playa itself or anything like it, but there are some good stories (and cautionary tales) in there nonetheless.
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewforum.php?f=69
The best stories seem to come out more organically over the course of the year, so stick around.
And actually, I like this link on the main site even more than the Experiences forum . . . it's about the weird little serendipitous moments that occur out there.

There are several people in the north carolina area that post on here from time to time. Look into the regional group in your area. They usually have local workshops, meetings, events to help you get in the swing of things. This is a great group of mostly sweethearts who occasionally try to act all prickly.

This is, perhaps, the place to start figuring out how to find a camp. Remember, you have to be willing to do some footwork on this. Perhaps if you hang out here enough, you'll strike up friendships or find chat in the theme camps sub-forum that will lead organically into a place to stay on-playa. But don't count on that. Not all, not even most, camps have a presence here, so follow leads.kilted_python223 wrote:I'm also looking for a theme camp to set up with.

lol as far as the name goes, Its the name I was given by a pagan group that i used to practice with several years ago. I converted to buddhism 2 years ago but the name stuck. I've been on here for the better part of the day reading mostly and dropping posts here and there. so hopefully before long I'll have a few friends under my belt.theCryptofishist wrote:This is, perhaps, the place to start figuring out how to find a camp. Re: new to the burn
Well, since we come from Texas where there were 30 - 100 degree+ days before we left for the burn, then we spent three days in Vegas during their record setting 120 degree days, what I thought when I hit the playa was "these people are wimps."

Re: new to the burn
Coming from FL.. we think the same thing.. lol. The heat and sunlight aren't nearly as bad as all summer in FL. Especially since the event is in the end of Aug, I've been outside on the boat and whatever allllllllll summer long. It's like a nice, dry, air conditioned camping trip to me.tamarakay wrote:Well, since we come from Texas where there were 30 - 100 degree+ days before we left for the burn, then we spent three days in Vegas during their record setting 120 degree days, what I thought when I hit the playa was "these people are wimps."![]()
