Half the Burners I know are living paycheck to paycheck, saving all year for their various expenses. You sound like you might give up a little easily on your dreams.I'm poor as hell but have always had the dream to make the journey across the country to BM. The hate I see on these boards is enough to make me wanna give that up. It seems like if I did make it I'd be disappointed by the people.
ePlaya is nothing like THE playa. You might be disappointed in the people, you might not be. We're not truly able to tell you what it's going to be like for you, specifically. People who need persuading, coddling, etc don't do so well out there. They generally expect someone else is going to take care of them and are unpleasantly surprised.
You can (often) Burn starting at about $1,000-$1,300, depending on how far away you are and how you're getting there. Here's a thread where people break down what they've spent and how.
