Admin approval for 1st time postings..
Just a thought, but I've noticed than on a few other popular php boards that your first post as a new member but be approved by a moderator. I'm thinking that something like this could really help cut down on the spam.
..but on a side note, I have noticed WAY less new spam posts than before. Not sure what you're doing differently, but nice work. It was getting pretty out of hand there for a while..

It's because I like to race Shambala to see who can delete a spam post first.
Actually, we're all deleting like madmen. We're in different time zones!

The different time zones really helps keep good coverage. It appears that when I am getting into work, Eric, Savannah and Trilo are just getting into bed, so I can snag the early morning spam along with AntiM. The cheap shoes, knock-off pocketbooks and counterfeit drugs are usually marked as spam by the community--which is a HUGE help in finding them easily.
Every now and then there is a group of hardcore porn spammers that show up, and those are vigilantly deleted immediately. The last batch was scary/dangerous stuff.

Wouldn't it be way less time consuming to just require an initial post approval? We get how many legitimate first time posters in a week? 3?

What I'd really like to have is a way to prevent 'unwelcome wagon' responses to new members' posts. If you suspect a post is from a spammer, flag it and move on. Do not jump on the snarky response bandwagon. In a number of case you're actually wrong about whether it's a legitimate user, and your actions only serve away to chase potential new members away and help contribute to the board's reputation as an unfriendly place.

Are you talking about me? The only first post that I called out as being a shill was the made in Bali one which.. is turning out to be a shill. I stay away from the welcome forum and let JK macro that sucker. The couple times I have, it's to actually say welcome.

Not you specifically, but if you've seen a new poster's thread that you thought was a spammer and you did something other than flag it and move on then yes you're part of the problem.
