Oakland's 101st homicide this year was a camper, according to the local news this morning.

Occupy Oakland is taking credit for being first on the scene.

Ghouls.

interesting, though, that they'd form a circle to prevent gawkers and media......I'd bet, those same folks if they were just walking down the street, and saw someone get shot, would not run over and form a circle for the same reason.......so, political motivation, and media/damage control, I'd say, were at work. As far as the circle.
super kudos, for anyone, though, that ran over to help the victim.

And, I'm not saying they shouldn't think about "damage control" as far as media etc.......(and, I'd bet media was their focus, "gawkers" just thrown in there to sound more altruistic). Of course, they'd worry about how it'd spin in the public media.

Just sayin, I doubt, the "blockade" was formed for concern for the privacy of the victim.

in a lot of ways, I give JK a ton of credit. He's walked the walk, (serving in Vietnam, with honors), and, lives what he preaches. Many may disagree ( I do at times) with him, but, he backs his play.

good on him, if that's what he's doing.

Arguably ghoulish if they make mention of it at all, as a press release. I thought they were, like, anonymous and consensus-driven and all that holy shit.

Back on Track Now Folks.

Here's a great opening from another brilliant article by financial writer Ellen Brown. You can't argue against facts, unless you work for Fox news or sycophantically wipe your intellectual tongue around its butt hole. Henry Ford nailed this one and the fucking chickens have come home to roost-finally.

Time for an Economic Bill of Rights http://www.truth-out.org/time-economic- ... 1320938466
Friday 11 November 2011
by: Ellen Brown, Truthout | News Analysis

We are beginning to understand that our money is not created by the federal government, but by banks.

Henry Ford said, "It is well enough that the people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning."

We are beginning to understand, and Occupy Wall Street looks like the beginning of the revolution.

We are beginning to understand that our money is created, not by the government, but by banks. Many authorities have confirmed this, including the Federal Reserve itself. The only money the government creates today are coins, which compose less than one ten-thousandth of the money supply. Federal Reserve Notes, or dollar bills, are issued by Federal Reserve banks, all 12 of which are owned by the private banks in their district. Most of our money comes into circulation as bank loans, and it comes with an interest charge attached.

According to Margrit Kennedy, a German researcher who has studied this issue extensively, interest now composes 40 percent of the cost of everything we buy. We don't see it on the sales slips, but interest is exacted at every stage of production. Suppliers need to take out loans to pay for labor and materials before they have a product to sell.

LOL. I posted that knowing that you would have a knee jerk reaction (and knowing what I would say in response)...

Now as if Jim Jones and Hitler are any better representations of who you are (or are they? not that I care either way), if I had to agree with every word someone said before I post a video, I would never be able to post. But I do like the way he nails the media in that segment. I can't say that his religion or "visions" does a damned thing for me though. Its pretty obvious that hes an eloquent speaker (like Hitler was) but also a nut when you take in the whole picture. So why the Hitler fetish Simon? You obviously are not running for political office because the thousands of people who see this board and only see your icons not really knowing you probably think you're a skinhead or some other kind of nut. You're only popular with the small clique who posts on this board, but what do you think all the lurkers would say about what you post especially those who spend about 5 minutes of their entire life and never see you again? I know you don't really care, it is just a rhetorical question...

You can learn a lot by listening to those who hate the USA so much (our country is not going to be able to point out its own flaws as critically just as it is hard for us to see ourselves truly objectively). As Tsun Tzu said "know thy enemy"...

Yeah, I KNEW you were gonna say that...

Man Outed as Undercover Cop at Occupy Oakland Condemns Police Brutality, Supports the Movement
Thursday 10 November 2011
by: Zaid Jilani, ThinkProgress | Report

Across the country, police have used undercover and/or plainsclothed police officers to monitor occupations and protests that are a part of the 99 Percent Movement. Earlier today, the Tennessean published excerpts from emails sent by the Tennessee Highway Patrol that confirmed not only that police were infiltrating Occupy Nashville but that they were hoping for the movement’s demise.

In a video released last month, Oakland Police Officer Fred Shavies was outed as one of these plainsclothed officers at Occupy Oakland. Watch it:

Now, in an interview with Justin Warren, Shavies said that he was just doing his job and that he actually supports the movement. He said that the police brutality that occurred could be our generation’s Birmingham — referring to the civil rights struggle in the South — and that he hopes the movement is a turning point for changing the country:

SHAVIES: I’m a police officer. I’m part of the 99 percent. [...] In the ’60s when people would protest, would gather in order to bring about change, right? Those protests were nonviolent they were peaceful assemblies. They were broken up with dogs, hoses, sticks. [...] It looks like there was a square, and police shot tear gas. That could be the photograph or the video for our generation. That’s our Birmingham. So, twenty years from now this movement could be the turning point, the tipping point, right. It’s about time your generation stood up for something. It’s about time young people are in the streets. [...] Ya’ll don’t need to throw gas canisters into a group of people occupying an intersection.

If they were real EMTs/Nurses/Medical personnel from the camp, then you're almost certainly wrong. Standard first responder is to protect the scene and the injured person. Just remembering how important that was to Scott makes me mad, as if you had impinged on his honor.

And, Bob, if you don't think that there were all sorts of reporters asking all sorts of questions of all sorts of campers afterwards and not get the answer that they (the camp medics) were first on the scene (and without the benefit of a press conference or any but the most primitive "spin"). I bet the scene was somewhat chaotic there last night. I dunno, maybe it's still ghoulish, but protecting the encampment's virtue in the eyes of the public would have struck some of these people as important.

Occupy PDX was served it's walking papers from the Mayor.

On a local biking mail list, I got word that they're calling for people to swarm and protect the camps on foot and bicycle.

Man... I have a pretty intense feeling that this is going to end ugly. The police aren't going to show up and say "Oh, there are bicycles here. We'll come back later."

Not sure about this but potentially very important:

The article says that the reason for the need for depopulation is the rising CO2 levels in the atmosphere (Same problem Apollo 13 had on return to earth).

Re: OCCUPYWALLSTREET REINFORCEMENTS!

Well, I just got back. It was quite an experience to say the least. Both positive and negative. I was almost overwhelmed when I first approached the occupation. The entire Los Angeles City Hall building was totally surrounded by tents. I mean totally surrounded. Wherever ther was grass there was a tent. As I got closer I noticed that there were porta potties--thank goodness, because by the time I got downtown I really needed one! It appears they are being provided by the city.

Then as I got closer, I started to notice the people, and the first ones living more on the fringes were the homeless that you hear about on the news. I started walking the perimeter and peering into the tent city as I walked around city hall. I was amazed at how many tents there actually were--so many that it was hard to imagine they were being allowed to camp there in those numbers.

After turning the first corner of the block there was no more grass, but sitting on the steps leading up to the entrance of City Hall, were about 50 or more people just sitting and meditating. I'm assuming they were the hippy contingent that so many are always talking about.

Now I was on the opposite side of City Hall and decided it was time to make it into the center of the encampment. Once inside, you could actually start to experience the community. There were signs everywhere stating the reasons they were there. There were areas for the press, an organizational tent--actually I think there were several organizational tents. There was a long table set up where they were serving hot soup to anyone who wanted it, and other areas for communal meals. After being there, it's easy to see why the homeless gravitate to the encampment--it's probably the safest most accepting environment they have experienced since their lives on the streets began.

But most of the people were bright, articulate people there because they believe the system is broken and they want to make it known they want it fixed.

By this time, I'd been there over an hour just trying to find out when the march was going to be--it was advertised to start at 11:11, but it was far past that time. Nobody seemed to know! Then, all of a sudden, we started to hear drum in the distance and several of us that didn't live in the city but came to march in solidarity started wondering if we were in the wrong place and might have missed the march. It turned out this was another group of Filipinos marching for Veterans and OWS. I still have no clue where they started or where they ended up after they marched around the encampment, but it was the closest I came to a march all afternoon.

I met people visiting from Wisconsin that decided to come down and march in support. There were people there from Austrailia in solidarity. And a lot of people just there in support, but there was no march. I heard talk that it might be a bit later, but having heard those rumors all day, my feet and legs were too tired and sore after more than four hours of standing and milling around, that I had to leave.

So, all in all, I saw almost everything there to be exactly like on the news--the good and the not so good. But the good far outweighs any of the negatives and it was an experience I am glad to have experienced for myself. I'll be spending more time with them.

Oh, I almost forgot the police. I guess that's because I don't think there were more than four police officers anywhere to be seen. And everywhere they were walked people were saying hello and thanking them for helping to keep the encampment safe.

I've got some pictures on my phone that I'll post up later.

Yes, overall I was impressed. I didn't see anything that would cause me to not want to support or them, it only reinforced my resolve to become more involved with them where I can.

Also, I have to say that from my first time visiting, I have to applaud the LAPD and the city. Especially after seeing how imposing an "Occupation" is. No wonder it is changing the conversation.

I'll be interested in hearing your take on it after being with them in person. Hopefully I'll remember to tune in to your webcast.

So I just finished writing a fairly lengthy response in support of the OWS movement, then deleted it. I agree the banking and monetary systems are flawed and unsustainable. Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Speech are dying. I agree the people in the movement are not just kids who bought a che guevara shirt because they thought it was the guy from Rage Against the Machine. I don't blame those kids for going. In fact, I hope they learn something real in their experience.
However, after making this point to myself, I came to another realization. If we fix this, we will have saved the asses of the men who built this situation. When/If the concede to the demands of the public, they will then turn this into their own heroic story of how they defeated the evils in American Society. I say:

Occupy PDX is not doing to well.

They have an eviction notice for midnight Sun.

Some say they will leave at the last moment..
Some have packed it in..
Others will sit until arrested.
Some think they are true bad asses.. They are gathering stone and sharpening sticks..

Some of the lead Occupyers called the police to remove a pile of stones from a tent..

In the wind.. There is noise of Occupy indoors some where..

Some one is calling for a bike mob to deter the police..

I just don't want any one to get hurt or worse, killed..
