Lady-Burners Ahoy! (and volunteer info needed)
Hi there! I'm a young woman, living in SoCal who is planning her very first trip to the Playa with my Lil Sister (don't worry, she's 21) and bestie, who has been to a Burn, herself. My bestie told me to check out the ePlaya for tips and such, in preparation and I realize that I do have a few questions. One friend of ours, who's expressed interest in going, is a RN and very interested in volunteering as a medic, on-call. Is there a specific area on this board for positions like that or medical protocol, at Burning Man? I would really appreciate an links, insight or shared experiences of medical volunteers from previous years. Other than that, I look forward to reading up as much as possible and soaking in any info to make the preparations necessary. I look forward to jumping in our van (or whatever we pick up) and just getting there, come next August.
Thanks, y'all!
Thanks, y'all!

Hi! Welcome!
Black Rock City Emergency Services Department loves RNs and takes volunteers at Station 3 and Station 9. (Center Camp also has a medical station handled by contracted workers).

I've volunteered two years for Medical now, and it's been a wonderful experience.
Other volunteer opportunities (including medical) are collected in this more general link:

New volunteers should generally start small (1 or 2 shifts), because Burning Man is physically and emotionally challenging, and you don't know how you'll fare 'til you get there. It's also a pity to have a lot of time constraints on a newbie.

New ESD (emergency services department) volunteers should fill out the general volunteer form as well as the special ESD add-on form. This should be done by the first of August. (Not an issue now, but who knows who will be reading this in June.)

Thanks so much for the warm welcome and I really appreciate the links and info, specific to Medical volunteerism. I will pass this on to my friend, for her to consider. I'm reading the boards and there is so much info to take in! I've got my hands full, for sure.

Since most mates are toughing it out on 2012 ticket thread, I will take charge in saying...

Welcome to eplaya! Lots of good info on here for newbies and for oldies. I've only been the one year, but I KNOW I would not have been prepared enough if it weren't for the fine folks who hang out on here.

I just feel like I need to tell you that what you're planning on doing is wrong, and illegal.
