And we'll flatten out and pack down part of the land and sell the space to folks that need to store stuff the rest of the year. Maybe even get some sheds or something and rent them out to folks!
Also, we can set up some sort of shower thing and charge people for that!
And maybe a "Hey you can show up here 3 days before the burn and hang out if you want" pre burn area, for small fee of course.
And a car wash
And a place for people to stop and sleep for a little bit if they find they're too tired driving down 447... we'll charge by the hour.
And for a small package deal folks can get a car wash, place to rest, disposal of their first 3 trash bags, and an Indian taco before their nap, then when they wake up, we'll sell them on leaving all there stuff there for a low low price of $38.95/month for the next 51 weeks. The package deal will even come with a ride to the air port (airfare not included).
The place will pay for itself in one burn!

Re: New Burningman Ticket Process - 2012
What a terrible idea. It sickens me that the burning man project group would resort to this. I say put all of their tickets in the raffle also and see if they like the idea. Fact is that many many seasoned burners have spent lots of money on art cars, bars (such as the vamp camp) who may not be "chosen". I feel like I'm in highschool all over again not getting "picked". They are going to create a worse scalping problem (one they are trying to eliminate) since many many people will want to ensure their friends go with them ( if they even do). This is against the first bman principle. LIKE the facebook page "boycott burning man 2012 lotto". Don't place a bid and let's start our own regional burn! Eff burning man project!!!'
Re: New Burningman Ticket Process - 2012
This is lunacy! The way the lottery is set up will inherently cut people out. Did I read this correctly? To participate one must pick their ticket tier and hope that's the one they get because if not THEY HAVE NO CHANCE AT ANOTHER TIER?!?!?? I'm concerned this will actually HURT sales. Just because a concert/festival/event sells out one year DOESN'T MEAN it will sell out again. That's rather presumptuous. Using tiered and staged pricing already whittles out people, switching to limited access lottery will leave far too much up to happenstance.
There is SO much wrong with this, and Jammies laid it out very well, including this:
I'll add: if technology is the issue during ticket sales, invest in greater bandwidth! These days, every major hosting company offers scalable bandwidth to meet variable traffic demands.
It's difficult to see/understand the rationale the office types are using.

Agreed! Who wouldn't want a ticket with their name (and Playa name, sure!) on the ticket?!?Jammies wrote:If scalpers are the issue, make the tickets non-transferrable! If someone wants to sell their ticket, have them send it in, destroy it, and issue the new person a new ticket for a nominal fee! That solves so many of the "scarcity" problems out there all by itself, which would be far easier to implement and far more popular to boot.

Nosferatu wrote:No, you are not being punished for having your shit together. You are being punished for ticket scalpers buying up tickets and selling them. Solve all this ticket nonsense by making them NOT transferable. If you buy a ticket you have to sell it back to BM and BM is the only place you can buy tix.
this is too reasonable to be considered.... duh!

Re: New Burningman Ticket Process - 2012
here here!sanukphoto wrote:Hi There! I am not at all happy about the way you will allocate tickets. I hold concerts (For the Amazon Foundation - with my partner Paul Oakenfold) so I know a little about ticket sales. Up to last year BM was not sold out so there was no problem with ticket touts / re-sellers grabbing tickets and making big money. Now of course every scalper is in line for tickets as they can sell them for double or whatever.
Each scalper in LA has like 100 "minions" that buy tickets for them (as there is usually a limit). The scalpers pay them a small profit and then re-sell the tickets at a huge profit.
So now, for every real Burner trying to get tickets - each scalper will employ 100 kids to be in the same lottery - and guess what - scalpers will end up with 50% plus of all tickets. Mark my word - watch out for the secondary ticket market next year.
And how about long time burners that suddenly don't get to go? People that have supported the event for 10 years or whatever. You think that is fair?
I think first and foremost you should allocate to all 2011 ticket holders the same amount of tickets that they or their group purchased. THAT IS THE VERY LEAST YOU CAN DO to be fair to and respect real burners. Even if it is at a higher ticket price - don't have a lottery for scalpers and re-sellers and kick out the people that were there last year.
Once you have taken care of your real/true fans/burners - go do whatever you want to do with the left over tickets - BUT DO NOT KICK OUT PEOPLE LIKE US WHO HAVE BEEN GOING FOR YEARS - forcing us to buy tickets on the after market - which often are fake. PLEASE BE FAIR. Don't turn this into a commercial affair for rich kids only - which is what it will become and you will destroy the event.
By the way - I am happy to subsidize tickets for kids that can't afford the high prices - hereby will grant you $1,000 towards affordable tickets!

stupid repetetive double post! Kind of like most of the posts in this thread.
It is what it is, there's not much you can do about it (lottery).
So what exactly would a Jewish Indian Taco consist of? I'll have to say I'm intrigued
