What's Your Fallback?
You could have a wide open year ahead of you. No sucking sound in your pocket, no vacation days spent getting unweildy loads across country in overloaded vehicles, no dust storms. You could be doing something else. You could have wide-open freedom in front of you.
Sailman's going for a new kitchen and more time with his boat. Both of those sound lovely. And may I add, if Sailman and his wife are planning to stay in their house after retirement, perhaps they should make the kitchen accessible, but I digress.
Since is seems rediculous to me to fly to Venice or Prague for just a week or two, I'm thinking of seeing if I still have an invitation to visit LeChat and Karine. 10 days in Tennessee, patting various cats and the Contraption, seems nice. Maybe I'll even get to watch and experiement in the workshop.
So, you! Wadda you want to do that you've been putting off? Road trip in the mid-west with plenty of drunkeness and thrifting? Alaska for the northern lights? New Zealand for the southern lights? Penquin colonies in Argentina? The vanishing snows of Kilimanjaro? Habitat for Humanity?
I'm sure that a group of creative, interesting people won't allow themselves months of sulking. So, Plan B--Outer Space?

What: Bitchfest 2012

Any chance you might consider some kind of random draw for invitations to that cult celebration?
I mean... certainly, people who've been already get first dibs...

Re: What's Your Fallback?
My girlfriend and I have taken a couple years off from Burning Man along the way. At the time, they were just what we needed. We enjoyed a staycation one year, and had other adventures in other years. We do fully expect to be able to get tickets to the 2012 event, but in a hypothetical backup plan situation I'd be all about going back to London.

Re: What's Your Fallback?
Ive had my share of fallbacks, too. This year I am in. I already know that and I aint paying over $300 a ticket either.
Im not worried about myself getting there, I am sure this lotto will be easier than any money lotto. Duh. I am only worried for the hardcore camp and art planners and their teams being all good. Other than that I am not worried about a thing. I'll be huffing ancient fish poop mixed with propane and bacon smoke when the time comes.

Re: What's Your Fallback?
There is a garden tractor pull coming up this summer..
The Unjon Dear I made up for 2010 could be souped up. It already has a lowered low range built to run slow on the playa..
The retrike w/ electric assist (for 2011) could be fun touring corners of Or.
Or the peddle jeer that's started (for 2012).. Make a matching trailer for a generator..Good to tour parks..
The van is all rigged for camping.. Look for a new life adventure..
OR OR play some stupid game for a ticket and go to Burning Man..

Makin' a run for the trash fence from Jungo Road. Well, technically, my manservant, Higgenbotham, will be doing the running while I lash him from the man-chariot.

Everywhere else just isnt warm, dry, loud or dusty enough for me. I tried changing it up in 2010. Too much peace and quiet. Not enough bacon.
The only thing it had going for it was the nice lack of Dumbstep

Re: What's Your Fallback?
I figure, for what we spend on Burning Man, we can get a round trip 7 day 6 night, all incusive deal to Mexico.
It will be the exact opposite of Burning Man, but o well, different isn't always bad.

I would camp over by the trashfence and trebuchet glitterbombs at first camp, Terminal City, and Giggsville all week long.

That's a good question.
What are the BLM closure boundaries?
Is BRC in catapult distance from the edge?

All depends on how big you think your trebuchet is.

I will just go to SF and hang out, they dress like burners and look homeless all year long. I can fit in.

I would probably take a mini vacation over to San Francisco (love that city) as I haven't been there in ages and maybe up to Portland...
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Re: What's Your Fallback?
I'd head back to Ohio to attend the annual family reunion that I have never ever been to but for some reason am starting to feel the need to go before everybody dies.

Re: What's Your Fallback?
I don't have much in the way of fallback since I can't imagine really being anywhere but the playa that week.
I guess I'd fallback to watching vintage porn and crying in the corner.

Hah, that would be crying while watching vintage porn (which I suppose can happen with the right kind of porn). I think I'd just alternate between crying and porn... or porn and crying if you so dare.
