Adios kiddos.
Badger and that foul-mouthed tramp Isotopia are playa bound.
Kick, shout, punch or scream if you see me just don't kiss me. Save that for Bob.
Oh, and BE CAREFUL GETTING THERE. Take your time, take a breather. No rush. No hurries.
You'll get there.

oh, ps- does anyone know of any theme-type parks or fairs with rides on the way down the coast? We're going Spokane to Portland then taking the coastal highway, not the #5. I could really go for a good roller coaster ride, and some cotton candy and mini donuts. I hear the Oregon state fair is happening in Salem, but I didn't see any rides listed on their website.
Please help, we're missing the PNE in Vancouver for BM. It better be worth it. hahaha.

Newport Aquarium. Largest jellyfish exhibit I've ever seen. And a shark tunnel you can walk through with sharks swimming all around. But we spent most of our time with the huge tanks of jellyfish.sparkletarte wrote:oh, ps- does anyone know of any theme-type parks or fairs with rides on the way down the coast? Any reason for taking the 101 other than avoiding I-5? There is a much shorter way than taking I-5 let me know if you want details.sparkletarte wrote:We're going Spokane to Portland then taking the coastal highway, not the #5.

6 a.m. Saturday morning is blastoff.
Don't know why this is, but for some reason this year I'm more pumped than ever. Scary. Lotsa peeps to see, lotsa trouble to get into, lotsa lotsas. The thing is, I'm the guy that jumps on people (especially nubes) about having 'no expectations'; I can't help myself; I've just got a real strong feeling about this year. The weather might be less than perfect; it won't frickin' matter.
Take no prisoners.

Because we've never been there! The ocean and sea life and the Redwood trees and the Oregon dunes. The hobbit trail! The seals! Swimming with dolphins! We're taking 4 days to get there to take in the sights.Any reason for taking the 101 other than avoiding I-5?
I live in BC 3 hours north of Spokane. We're taking the roundabout way down and the fast 395 home. My brother used to be a truck driver on the BC to LA route so he's got me all dialed on routes.

Right on, sounds like you are going to have a nice trip down. Enjoy and be sure to at least stop for a night in Yachats. It is a wonderful town and just south of town is Cape Perpetua a great spot to watch the ocean crash on the rock creating wonderful picture moments. I never explored the dunes in the Florence area but they seemed damn cool. Travel safe and see you on the playa.

I'm headed out Monday Mornin (Aug 30th) and doin a Snoopy dance from Orange County right on up 395 into Reno then Black Rock.
I cant believe it's almost time to leave !!
I love the drive up 395. That view from the last gas station in Bridgeport of the mountains is my favorite.
I've got a Ford Ranger with a little 4 cyl in it thats an absolute lead sled when loaded down with Playa Gear. So it's all about strategic shifting and use of the AC while swapping out CD's.
Helps the time go by.

The Playa Cruiser sets sail Friday. I planned on an early morning departure, but it just won't quit raining in Seattle this week and none of us are ready, so it looks like Friday afternoon... but that's fine, still too early but we just can't wait to roll!

going thru reno?
Umm, sparkletarte, I assume you have seen such as this http://www.gwally.com/directions/ and decided to go thru sf/reno anyway? It really sounds a lot longer to go sf/reno than via Alturas, etc.
Mapquest shows the time from spokane-sf-reno-gerlach as 21 hrs, via Alturas as 14 hrs.

Ground crew just left, driving from the Midwest. I fly out on Sunday. As much as I did not want to drive across country, the excitement last night, and this morning was radiating off the others. So, I am sitting at work, reading the eplaya, waiting…
Someone asked it I was excited about my vacation, to which I replied “Well, I am beginning to feel nauseous, so yeah, that would be the excitement…”
(Drove in 2002 and remembered that road trips are really not fun for me. Just never liked them.)

Look, I'm still here! Gah! Too much to do, delayed leaving until Friday early am.
swampyface, we're not going to SF, that's way to far out of the way, I 'm not sure why you thought we were going that way. We're cutting in from the coast at Aractus or whatever that place is called near Trinidad (don't have my map in front of me), where the highway goes inland to Redding. I know there are faster ways, but that's not the point. We have more on our agenda than BM. Gasp! I know, it sounds crazy and hard to believe, but it's true. We want to see the Oregon coast, as neither of us have been there. Same with Reno, never been there, thought we'd win a bunch of money before heading into BM, so we can share it with you when we get there. So don't try to change our minds! We're winning a bunch of money and we're going to gift it to YOU!

I'm 75% loaded up, had to do some more consolidation but it's working.
I could load up the coolers and leave tonight but they're not expecting me at the gate until Saturday, so I have some bumper time to rearrange, repack and consolidate some more, and then get good and rested, fed and the apartment cleaned up.
I now have a living room again
Mt. Hullottaboxes has been shifted into the car.
Seeing A LOT of Playa Flake Factor happening. The local lists are full of people screaming "HELP!!!" How could people do that?
