My name is Mary-Frances, and I am a Birgin! (This is said loudly and with much vigor, just fyi). I'm 22, and I'm from Houston. I'm a recent graduate from Texas Tech University, and I am currently awaiting my decision letter from the University of Houston's graduate program in Counseling Psychology. I hope to receive my Master's and begin work as a sex therapist. My younger brother (20) and I will be attending our first burn in 2012. Thank goodness, too -- we should experience BM before the supposed end of the world, after all.
I've been following this message board for a little over a year now, and I didn't want to create an account and start posting until I felt that I was well versed in all things Burning Man. I didn't want to ask questions that I should already know after reading the First-Timers Guide. My brother and I have read all of the First-Timers' materials, and many external websites for tips and tricks, so I feel like we are ready to begin serious preparations for our first burn!
We're both volunteers in the default world, so we would like to extend that to the playa. We're not sure where we would be best suited for help, so any tips would be greatly appreciated! We've given the possibility of joining a theme camp a lot of thought, but we've tentatively decided to brave the playa sans theme camp this first go-round. We've never been on any kind of trip without our parents, so this entire journey will be life-changing, and I think we'd like to have the ability to share private moments of growth together as we explore the world outside of Houston, TX. If a theme camp would be a better choice, feel free to persuade us. We're more than flexible at this point.(PS: Thanks in advance for any welcomes and helpful posts!
