New guy without a clue, but can cook!

Post by jfgugli » Sat Nov 19, 2011 10:12 am

I thought growing up and living in NYC was challenging at time. But this Burning Man adventure will be more challenging! And glad no one will me shooting at me, you know how cities can get at times. I Have read most info but is always glad to get more advice. I live in Durham, NC but refuse to wear a coon skin hat and chew tobacco. Have lived in Hell's Kitchen NYC during the 80's when the City was full throttle, remember Fort Apache? It is now the Little House on the prairie. Separated, and very glad to have my life back. Am still the stay at home parent to a 13 & 16 yr old girls. Love the ability to be full time at that deal. They will be gone awful soon. Lived in San Diego and was an OB-sion. Anyone from that area knows the throwbacks we were in Ocean Beach. Went upscale and moved to Mission Beach. Went to La Jolla alot to cruise the La Valencia Hotel.
Had a vasectomy, been stabbed, cut, and shot. been to Vietnam, once 1968/1968, than last year 2010 in April. Said a prayer at My Lai on my knees and made my Peace.
Worked for New York City retired, worked for American Airlines retired. Looking for the next thing in Life to redefine myself and my path. making a turkey right now for the Homeless Shelter in Durham. Going to Harry Potter World, and Disney World for Thanksgiving. ( Event planned before the break-up and my 16 yr old insisted I go. Told my ex no holding hands!!!!!)
What else, nothing else, maybe more later? Now if someone can direct me to how to use this e playa thingamabob I would be very grateful :?

The people in those old photographs look like aliens, almost, sometimes. Being in the 21st century can really fuck with your brain.

Get used to the thread drift, it's all over here. (That's where a lot of --choke cough-- bonding takes place.)
Thanks for the picture.

I'm reading your introduction and looking for the hint of whether you're male of female. I was confused until the word, "vasectomy". Thank you. It caused me to go to the freezer and put a bag of frozen peas in my lap (for no good reason, I just did it).
Welcome to eplaya, and I too hope to see you on the playa in 9 short months.

Sham....

Welcome, welcome, welcome! :D Nice to meet you! Lot's of good folks here to help you anyway they can. First read as much as you can as some tend to get snarky. Have thick skin?? GOOOd! you'll fit in great! Sooo you like to cook eh? It just so happens I like to eat! What's your signature dish? sorry...cooking and food is my happy place!
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Sure, you can cook.
but can you cook in a constant wind, outside, on a camp stove, without a proper sink, with ingredients from a cooler or a can?
Because that's what your up against. (And I bet that I left a few of the challenges out.)
