I'd vote for Paris Hilton with Hugo Chavez as a running mate, based on this:

that's sort of nit picky, don't ya think? he has the right idea, just missed the verbiage.
Jeeze.
And yet, I see no police in riot gear. No use of overwhelming force. Why is it that unarmed protesters are beaten, and those with weapons are allowed to roam the streets freely?
Pretty simple question, for a very complex, convoluted situation, IMHO.

The attitudes above might explain the 40% turnout in the November election in Frisco. Wonder what happened to the fleabagger vote.

but you're missing my point, as usual ..... i do not doubt that there are abuses in the system, or that we need the means to deal with them. i think our disagreement is how to prevent abuses from happening in the first place. you have a scorched earth approach which i tend to think would impoverish everyone, while mine is to let business flourish while accepting the fact there there are greedy assholes and thieves out there. always have been, always will be. you can change regulations, but a thief will find a way around them ... and meanwhile, you just might make things worse for a lot of honest, hard-working people. it is, as always, a question of balance.
it's a disagreement we will likely always have. you think Marx was right ..... but i wrote a paper in college explaining why Marx was wrong, and the basic idea (it was a very long time ago!) was that his ideas would work well on ants, but very poorly on humans.
cheers!

I said that Marx was right about the eventual direction of capitalism, which if you look around the world today, you'll see is right. So add humans to the ants.littleflower wrote:i'll take the high quality pinot, thanks.cowboyangel wrote:littleflower, I think you ought drinking some high quality Pinot for a change, then sit down on your couch and watch Erin Brockovich

If the DOJ and SEC and other policing and watchdog institutions were allowed to thrive and escape political pressure, all those "bad guys" of capitalism might be sitting in jail right now.

Burning Man has become too damn big. That's the elephant in the living room. Why not break it up into two time periods and limit the attendance of each to 25,000?
Or baring that set up another location to run at the same time? Why not? Larry's goddamn gift and do-it-yourself-culture message is truly needed in the USA right fucking now.

could it not be said, "no" system is perfect? Or, ever will be?
Humans, screw it up. But, also, keep it entertaining.
But yeah, eventually, all systems fail, and I'd say, usually due to greed and corruption, IE: Humans.
I see a flaw in some of your logic, CA (not that that's bad), and, that is, giving too much power, to gov.
(if I read you right).
The thing is, we can't always be assured the "good guys (or, at least "not so bad guys") will always be in charge.
Imagine, those enforcement and regulating agencies, in the wrong hands.........look at the "Patriot act" and, "Homeland security"........as bad as they are, imagine them in truly nefarious hands.............
I believe, you are a "States rights" person? I am. I so like the idea of 50 (ish) separate "nation states", very, very loosely connected (not controlled) by a small, weak (but necessary) fed.
yeah, sort of like the "original intent".......yeah, that's it.

hahas, perhaps.......I suppose, one of my many weaknesses, is the ability, to see positive in both sides of many arguments, and not being so good at the "polar opposites" thing.
I can, and often do, argue for the good points (IMHO, of course) on both sides, hoping the best solution lies somewhere in the middle.......and yes, I do at times take a contrary opinion, just to allow, or bring out, another persons real thoughts and passions. For clarification as such.

Re: OCCUPYWALLSTREET REINFORCEMENTS!
That's not a weakness, it's actually a strength to be able to see all sides of issues. The weakness is never being able to use that ability to then decide on a position and Then to defend it.
Imagine trying to apply that same logic to carving a grave stone. It would either never get started or would never end until it was chipped away to nothing. Study the stone from all angles, decide on the design, then commit to it, no?

Occupy Oakland Calls for TOTAL WEST COAST PORT SHUTDOWN ON 12/12
November 19, 2011
Proposal for a Coordinated West Coast Port Shutdown, Passed With Unanimous Consensus by vote of the Occupy Oakland General Assembly 11/18/2012:
In response to coordinated attacks on the occupations and attacks on workers across the nation:
Occupy Oakland calls for the blockade and disruption of the economic apparatus of the 1% with a coordinated shutdown of ports on the entire West Coast on December 12th. The 1% has disrupted the lives of longshoremen and port truckers and the workers who create their wealth, just as coordinated nationwide police attacks have turned our cities into battlegrounds in an effort to disrupt our Occupy movement.
We call on each West Coast occupation to organize a mass mobilization to shut down its local port. Our eyes are on the continued union-busting and attacks on organized labor, in particular the rupture of Longshoremen jurisdiction in Longview Washington by the EGT. Already, Occupy Los Angeles has passed a resolution to carry out a port action on the Port Of Los Angeles on December 12th, to shut down SSA terminals, which are owned by Goldman Sachs.
Occupy Oakland expands this call to the entire West Coast, and calls for continuing solidarity with the Longshoremen in Longview Washington in their ongoing struggle against the EGT. The EGT is an international grain exporter led by Bunge LTD, a company constituted of 1% bankers whose practices have ruined the lives of the working class all over the world, from Argentina to the West Coast of the US. During the November 2nd General Strike, tens of thousands shutdown the Port Of Oakland as a warning shot to EGT to stop its attacks on Longview. Since the EGT has disregarded this message, and continues to attack the Longshoremen at Longview, we will now shut down ports along the entire West Coast.
Participating occupations are asked to ensure that during the port shutdowns the local arbitrator rules in favor of longshoremen not crossing community picket lines in order to avoid recriminations against them.
Should there be any retaliation against any workers as a result of their honoring pickets or supporting our port actions, additional solidarity actions should be prepared.
In the event of police repression of any of the mobilizations, shutdown actions may be extended to multiple days.
In Solidarity and Struggle,
Occupy Oakland
-In Oakland: the West Coast Port Shutdown Coordinating Committee will meet on General Assembly days at 5pm before the GA to organize the local shutdown, and to network with other occupations.
I wish the Teamsters and SEIU and nearby California Nurses Union would join in. It's a lot to always expect ILWU to carry the burden of these actions. If the maritime industry decides to sue the ILWU, that costs a shitload of money. Solidarity is the factor. Taft Hartley bans solidarity (sympathy) strikes. Time to break the law.

"some studies" can prove any point you'll ever want to make........
@JK:
yeah, see, when I think something is clear cut, I do take a stand on it. But, so often, these issues are not "cut and dried" enough, IMHO, to be able to "carve them in stone"..........
If political issues, were only as simple, as carving granite......sigh............
How many times in my life, have I take a "solid" position, on a matter such as OWS, only to find, said position changed, or even reversed, after more information and reflection, are garnered?
Well, a lot of times.
This, has led me to a more fluid sense of "reality", and especially as relates to humans and political/social issues.
So yeah, it's tough for me to dig a hole and fight from there.
"flip flopping"? well perhaps. But I'd also like to think, I'm open to information, and, willing to change as circumstance dictate.
you, personally, have led to changes in my attitudes about some things. And, I thank you, for that.
