Re: Work in Progress
I finally bought a Costco carport and love it! It holds the trailer and all of the gasoline and propane tanks. It's gonna save the trailer from so much weather grief this (and every) winter.
It was kinda dark inside the trailer within the carport...
I dug up a 20 foot ropelight and a wireless remote switch. Using the bungie balls, I put up the ropelight and it was good. But verily I say unto thee, anything worth doing is worth overdoing...
I went to Target today and picked up 4 more ropes and another wireless switch. Now there be light surrounding me, yar!
The first remote controls the single rope. The second controls the other 4 ropes. At 36 watts per rope it adds up to 180 watts. When I need just a bit of light or a nightlight I can use the single one.
I still can't believe I get all this carport for $200...

Definitely going to have to look into some of that ropewire for my two temp garages. I have a double wide for the two trucks and two singles (one for the honda and one, which we haven't been using of late, for the trailer).
I'd love to have it glow like that. The motion sensor spot light just isn't cutting it for me anymore.
Wonder if I can get Ken to wire me up some to a motion sensor?????

you can get little things that screw into a light socket, but, have a power outlet to plug a cord into........no wiring needed....just a little screwing.........delle wrote:Definitely going to have to look into some of that ropewire for my two temp garages. Re: Work in Progress
Real talent.
....which apparently reached way further than just that one incident (which was great, btw, TY!!!)
After, we went into town for the 50% sale at Value Village. What should I see there but a WHITE (brand) sewing machine, circa 1930's.
It was, as far as I can tell, pretty much identical to your Kenmore. Which isn't surprising, because the Kenmores were made by the White factory back then, but labeled under the Sears brand.
So what this means is that I maybe got to look up close and personal at "your" machine to try and figure out how it threads. I'd have actually bought it (for $15) for the research value alone, but it was huge, had neither motor nor treadle, and frankly... besides being quite beautiful... it scared me half to death.
There was pretty much nothing about it that was the least bit like any machine I've ever seen before.
Which brings me to a couple of questions:
Do you have a metal badge-like-looking thing on the left-hand side (side closest to the foot) that clasps and unclasps when you raise the lever in the back? If so, this replaces the 2-disc tension mechanism that is on virtually Every Other Machine On The Planet. I haven't a clue how it works.
When you take the bobbin out, do you have to press two little levers together to release it? And is it like WAY larger in diameter than any other bobbin you've ever seen? If so, it still threads the same way, but good luck ever finding a replacement bobbin (which means you'll be using the same colour thread forever, or at least until it runs out.... choose it well).
I haven't ruled out returning for this, for the pieces alone. The furniture was a piece of junk, and as I said it was missing the guts, but the actual machine was a beautiful, pristine chocolate brown and all the pieces seemed to be there......... unlike yours....
....because Triken was right when she suggested that part of your bobbin winder was missing. It's a pretty little piece. You'd like it.
That said, I now feel I have a solid argument for you looking for another machine rather than trying to figure this one out.
....just don't throw it away quite yet.... and if you trade it, get the "guy's" coordinates. I may have some pieces he-or-she might want.

Happy to help....just lemme know what I can do!!!

if you mean on the end of the machine, by the needle, yes, I think it is there.
When you take the bobbin out, do you have to press two little levers together to release it?
no, one lever, on a curved thing, that locks the bobbin holder in
And is it like WAY larger in diameter than any other bobbin you've ever seen?
well, in all my years of bobbin experience, I can't say if it's way bigger.......dang.
If so, it still threads the same way, but good luck ever finding a replacement bobbin (which means you'll be using the same colour thread forever, or at least until it runs out.... choose it well).

Yeah but it only does a straight stitch, and not that well if it's not tuned up. I'd get something that does buttonholes and zig-zags without needing an attachment the size of a jigsaw, and sell the thing to a local bed & breakfast in need of period furnishings.

I love this place
AND.....
A note on attachment of ropelights to the ridgeline of a Costco carport.
Be careful of how you do this and of what you use to do it.
I used zip ties. I placed them only at the junctures of the tube sockets where there is a slight gap, essentially a groove.
This should prevent the ties from rubbing through the roof tarp because the tie is not in contact with the tarp. If tight enough, I see no reason that the ties would ever be able to move enough to damage it.
Be sure to trim the 'tail' of the tie and put a small piece of duct tape on the head where the tail stuck out.

Fortunately I have a shit-ton of zipties and a zipper-snipper.
I went to the hardware store the otherday for zipties. Couldn't for the life of me remember what they were called in french, so did a little pantomime with the word ZIPPPPPPPPP thrown in here and there.
Then I spotted my "main guy". The one who helps Kenny out whenever he goes in, because Kenny has no french. I shouted out "Hey Sylvain! What's a Zip-Tie in French??"
Blank look
So I did my pantomime for him too.
Smile and awkward silence
.....in french it's a "Tie Wrap" Heavy on the rolled "R".

the light swept the area with a nice strong light...
once you knew where it was one was able to see it 'blinking' halfway out to the man... by my estimation..
when sitting up there the gentle whirrring noise of its motor and parts was calming, yep... if youre in to that sort of thing.
itd be cool to see it back in some different form..

Re: Work in Progress
after about 2 months of work, inspired by "GOD OF HELLFIRE" a quad .50 mount used by 6th Battallion / 11th Artillery.
A turret powered by wheelchair motors giving joystick control of elevation and traverse. Elevation is from operator legs and barrels horizontal to vertical. Traverse time about 8 second per revolution. Left and right will be flame projectors / flame effect appliances with 20# tanks as accumulators. Accumulators will mount on aluminum tabs below the .50 handles, and supply tanks at front corners. Plan is to be able to make a double helix of fire while spinning and 'shooting'
