New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison was the only public official to have indicted a suspect in President John F. Kennedy’s murder. Biographer Joan Mellen met Garrison in 1969. His relentless search for the truth about who killed President Kennedy made a deep impression upon her. In 1997, five years after Garrison’s death, Mellen started to work on the story of his life. Her biography turned into a new investigation of the assassination itself.
Joan Mellen spoke in New York in January 2006 – a few weeks after the release of her book: A Farewell to Justice. She found new evidence in the National Archives’ JFK Assassination Records Collection and conducted more than one thousand interviews, with many witnesses speaking out for the first time. Joan Mellen names those responsible for the assassination and shows how the cover-up began in New Orleans months before President Kennedy was shot in Dallas.

Joan Mellen is professor of English and creative writing at Temple University in Philadelphia. She is the author of seventeen books, ranging from film criticism to fiction, Latin American studies and biography.
Thanks to the New York Sound Posse for the recording.
