This Year's theme sucks.
Re: This Year's theme sucks.
Damn. I shoulda saved my uterus in a big glass jar. It coulda been the new Dicky.
So this year, if folks decide to have al fresco friskytime out in deep playa, can they argue when the cops bust them that they're just celebrating the theme? No? Damn.
OK, then, yeah...not thrilled with the theme either.

For those who thought my gallon jar of pickled eggs were yucky, see two posts above...
Say, does anyone know what the installation with 6 - 7 raised platforms with comfy futon mattresses and billow fabric privacy curtains and a rotating mirrored heart in the center was named?
I'd like to suggest it to Mish for her frisky frolics.

It's odd, but even with the crappiest theme somebody comes up with a nice take on it.
For some reason from the Vault of Heaven year, I cherish that someone came up with "Fault of Kevin" and someone else "Pole Vault to Heaven." Don't underestimate the power of bored burners to come up with something absurd during the winter stay at home time.

Fine, it's "1.0", but you try finding a song called "Fertility 2.0"!

Re: This Year's theme sucks.
I am wondering if he borrowed the idea from a group of scientists at UCB (Cal). Earlier this year they proposed that we humans embark on creating Carbon 2.0, which is the idea that we need to create a second carbon cycle to close the loop on carbon emissions (that is, continue burning carbon, but capture and reuse the emissions...um, that didn't really come out right). 2.0 is dog whistle for the redesigning or rethinking an existing paradigm.Eric wrote:I'm with Nipple.Nipple wrote:junglesmacks wrote: Why would this be "2.0" then if it wasn't used before?
I'm going to webapp friend tag-cloud like your Fertility, and share podcasting mashups with standards compliant p2p crowdsourcing.
Larry's been in SF too long and thinks 2.0 sounds cool.
Like I said- I can't find anything official (yet) that says that Fertility was the theme in '97 or any other year. Doesn't mean it wasn't, but as far as I've found it certainly isn't looking like it was. I may be eating my words later, but at least they're low calorie.

Although.. in the meantime, we've clarified that it was indeed the theme in 1997. So, yeah.. this is a recycled theme.

I feel like the only thing the theme influences anymore is the eplaya discussion fodder and some minor talking amongst y'selves..Eric wrote:I've decided to recycle my annual "ignoring of the theme"junglesmacks wrote:Although.. in the meantime, we've clarified that it was indeed the theme in 1997. The closest I ever got to observing the theme was buying two stars-&-stripes bandannas for "The American Dream" in '08.junglesmacks wrote:I'm with you. As it turns out, the theme both sucks and blows, effectively canceling itself out.
So, what's your theme?

So ... in Fertility 2.0 you can actually conceive by being sucked OR blown? That is lame.

I thought perhaps it would be a gambling theme with the lottery tickets and all. It's the only way I could make this system make sense.Ugly Dougly wrote:As it turns out, the theme both sucks and blows, effectively canceling itself out.
