Anti M, Valley of the Gods is practically in my back yard, too. Very beautiful!!
I consider anything in a days drive to be in my back yard. LOL

Occupy Slab City sounds cool. We could bring our theme camps and other fun stuff.

Re: What's Your Fallback?
I might consider wasteland weekend if I don't manifest some tickets to the burn. Assuming they have one next year. A long trip for a weekend event though, and will need a new wardrobe for it as well.

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Perfect!

Re: What's Your Fallback?
The occupy Slab City makes sense since it will be in the summer when the snow birds are mostly gone. The event doesn't necessarily need to happen on the same week as the Burning Man Festival in Nevada. This would allow some people such as teachers who are otherwise completely shut out from Burning Man to attend. The long term residents of Slab City would not appreciate pre recorded dj music played all night to such excessive volume which would in turn encourage a more artistic vibe rather than just a self indulgent rave party. They have stage permanently set up for live music there already anyway. The Slab Burn would be a decidedly more organic / hippie event. The tickets to the Slab City burn would be free, and the residents of Slab City would of course be given tickets. The porta potties and dumpsters would be a difficult necessity.

Re: What's Your Fallback?
There are dozens of playas in Nevada. I plan on rounding up others who don't have tickets and having my own shindig on one of the playas east of Fallon.
i love your..

My fallback: lying on a white sand beach somewhere sipping mai tais and typing short stories (original, illustrated, blasphemous) via text message to the friends Burning without me.
Re: What's Your Fallback?
Yes, I'd be down to attend some sort of Altern-A-Burn if I don't get a ticket. Maybe build another Trojan Horse, or jack ass, and burn it? I still think Slab City is the best location, but I'll go to whichever one seems to have the most people going. Slab City handles thousands of snow birds in the winter months, but empties out in the summer heat.

Re: What's Your Fallback?
Never heard of Slab City and it does look juicy. But currently researching the idea of an alt event at Pyramid Lake same week, so burners can stop by on their way to the burn if they are so inclined.
but heck, now maybe I'll be in Slab City.

I'd love to go check out slab city sometime. Probably not in august/sepember as it can get up to 110-120 degrees. Re: What's Your Fallback?
Fallback...save some money, time, and miss a chance for adventure, but not the only or last one I'll have.
P.S. Been to Slab City (East Jesus) and Salvation Mountain. There are some good folks there but also some Crack-Meth heads. As with the Playa...preparation is key!

UnJon, I've been going to Pyramid Lake since I was two years old. It's a little late to try and stop me now.

I was, of course, referring to the deathless L. Harvey quote about nudity and fire being primal attractants. Could that community of retirees handle that?Ugly Dougly wrote:Would they welcome the primal attractants?

Re: What's Your Fallback?
Have you ever been to a nudist colony? Seems to me that retirees are the nudiest of folks. That is a serious consideration though. Those are two ingredients I would not want to leave out of any alternative.

We prefer to call them Clothing Optional Resorts. "Nudist colony" is so 1970s.

Oh dear, I've so dated myself. Makes sense what with the derogatory connotations of Colony...but why does PC language have to be so damn long?

That sounds fun! Too bad, its way after Burning Man.Drawingablank wrote:I might consider wasteland weekend if I don't manifest some tickets to the burn. Assuming they have one next year. A long trip for a weekend event though, and will need a new wardrobe for it as well.

It could be fun to go to Burning Man for a week, then go straight to Wasteland Weekend.
But driving from Denver to BRC, then back to Denver
and then tree weeks later from Denver to Northern California does not sound appealing.

Re: What's Your Fallback?
There's a great place for bouldering called "The Buttermilks" in the Owens Valley.
I wonder if it would be a cool place for a small event.

Re: What's Your Fallback?
I actually remembered I have a pretty good fall back plan. Our family has an annual family reunion back on my Grandmother's farm in Ohio that weekend. I've never ever attended, but I've recently reconnected and in some cases connected for the first time with many of the relatives. So, it might be fun to see the old farm again--hell I haven't been back there since my teens.

Re: What's Your Fallback?
If you do go, please make a point of getting naked at the most awkward moment and starting a large bonfire. That would be a family gathering not soon to be forgotten.
