The same old BS has been going on for generations now. I post the below as proof that politicians use a "playbook script" designed for gullible folks:

It's like George Carlin said, "the table is tilted folks, the game is rigged..."

When George Carlin died, Tim Russert died around the same time. The news media spent the next several days eulogizing Russert while Carlin was treated as a footnote.

I don't spend much on x-mas and have never put up an x-mas tree (right now I wouldn't even have a place to put one unless it is a tiny one on my dashboard). I have an agreement with my father that it is silly to force exchange gifts in this way for things we never use; we just spend dinner together. My sister is the only exception.unjonharley wrote:My family dose not do Xmas..Bet your just another slobbering dog. You may not have responded to the black friday bell.. But you will before the next month "rings" out..
BTW, A few years back the Salvation Amy NW headquarters had a fire. I was called in to salvage.. Next time you put some money in the bell ringer pot.. You should see how the upper crust of Sally's live.. Find your own way to give to the poor.. Don't answer that bell ether..
Some charities have had significant financial abuses when they get big enough. Years ago, the United Way had a scandal where the CEO embezzled about 5 million... It's nothing new.

Re: OCCUPYWALLSTREET REINFORCEMENTS!
Many in the 99% may do that. Additionally, many in the 99% have used credit cards to just keep up with the American Dream, as wages stagnated, credit and interest rates rose to record heights. So, it's easy to see how many of the 99% could become mesmerized as if Wall Street were the Pied Piper of easy credit. I can remember the days of 8% being high on credit cards--but there were usury laws in those days. Hmmm...whatever happened to that regulation? All goes back to too much money in politics. Whoever has the money to bribe the rule makers, in essence get to write the rules. I think I vaguely remember bygone days when that didn't happen all that much either.unjonharley wrote:

Hmmm....might that be what the Occupy Wall Street movement is all about?

It don't believe that it is that hard to fix. It's more likely that it is intentionally broken. I don't think its realistic to believe that such a simple matter as writing a few words into law is so hard to do. If it is "difficult", it is because they want it to be so.jkisha wrote:Though the words are the same, I don't think it necessarily proves your conclusion. Re: OCCUPYWALLSTREET REINFORCEMENTS!
Laws are written, changed, rescinded, and written again over the decades--based on who is in power and how corrupt they are at the time. So yes, sometimes things are intentionally broken. The reason that it's so hard to fix is that money can have a powerful influence--both for good and for not so good! I don't want to scrap the entire system, I just want to keep up the good fight and hope that someday we'll win.Sola Gangsta wrote:It don't believe that it is that hard to fix. Well, today is the deadline given by the mayor for Occupy Los Angeles to pull up camp. It will be interesting to see the news at eleven.

I guess the mayor is itching to create another riot with more police brutality. Guess its been awhile and LA is due for another. I hope they stay nonviolent but having been to the LA camp and seeing how rough and violent LA is it wouldnt surprise me if people lose their cool. LAPD is just as bad as Oakland PD they are just a lil better at covering up the murder of poor minorities.jkisha wrote:Well, today is the deadline given by the mayor for Occupy Los Angeles to pull up camp. I have been to the LA camp too. I thought that the way the police were handling everything was very professional. I know LA has had it's problems, but I think we've come a long way in cleaning the PD up. I guess we'll see in a few more hours if I'm right or not.BlackRockCityPimp wrote:I guess the mayor is itching to create another riot with more police brutality. I'm also starting to think that maybe it's time for the encampments to all pull up their tents and move on to phase two. Like daily marches and daily occupations or sit-ins. They need to build numbers now more than anything else; and there are too many people that sympathize with them but are not able to camp; but would be more than willing to join in on a march or participate in daily (or weekly) occupations.

The second link is great. I agree with most of that list of demands, and I can't imagine that a majority of Americans would have trouble with it either.

Re: OCCUPYWALLSTREET REINFORCEMENTS!
Johnny’s in the basement
Mixing up the medicine
I’m on the pavement
Thinking about the government
The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says he’s got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off
Look out kid
It’s somethin’ you did
God knows when
But you’re doin’ it again
You better duck down the alley way
Lookin’ for a new friend
The man in the coon-skin cap
By the big pen
Wants eleven dollar bills
You only got ten
Maggie comes fleet foot
Face full of black soot
Talkin’ that the heat put
Plants in the bed but
The phone’s tapped anyway
Maggie says that many say
They must bust in early May
Orders from the D.A.
Look out kid
Don’t matter what you did
Walk on your tiptoes
Don’t try “No-Doz”
Better stay away from those
That carry around a fire hose
Keep a clean nose
Watch the plain clothes
You don’t need a weatherman
To know which way the wind blows
Get sick, get well
Hang around a ink well
Ring bell, hard to tell
If anything is goin’ to sell
Try hard, get barred
Get back, write braille
Get jailed, jump bail
Join the army, if you fail
Look out kid
You’re gonna get hit
But users, cheaters
Six-time losers
Hang around the theaters
Girl by the whirlpool
Lookin’ for a new fool
Don’t follow leaders
Watch the parkin’ meters
Ah get born, keep warm
Short pants, romance, learn to dance
Get dressed, get blessed
Try to be a success
Please her, please him, buy gifts
Don’t steal, don’t lift
Twenty years of schoolin’
And they put you on the day shift
Look out kid
They keep it all hid
Better jump down a manhole
Light yourself a candle
Don’t wear sandals
Try to avoid the scandals
Don’t wanna be a bum
You better chew gum
The pump don’t work
’Cause the vandals took the handles
Mixing up the medicine
I’m on the pavement
Thinking about the government
The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says he’s got a bad cough

So far, the Los Angeles OWS eviction is proceeding peacefully by negotiation rather than forceful police action. The Mayor seems to be handling the situation well.

Salt Lake was a peaceful eviction, the police chief was down there often, talking to the occupiers, sorting out who was homeless and directing them to the shelters, helping the occupiers find transportation, telling them how to be arrested in a manner that would be respectful to the officers while upholding their cause. It helped that our first big cold snap happened right then too.jkisha wrote:So far, the Los Angeles OWS eviction is proceeding peacefully by negotiation rather than forceful police action. There's also the pesky problem of "lack of leadership", then the general distrust of any idea or anyone that ever discusses money, then there's the communication problems...
All of which are solvable with some great ideas being batted around and considered...but there are some times you step back and wonder WTF was I thinking when I got myself into this? But then you see others fighting through things and it inspires you to keep going. And that momentum can take you farther than you might expect!

Re: OCCUPYWALLSTREET REINFORCEMENTS!
Sam Raimi is working on Denny Lehane's new book to film called "The Given Day"- about the 1919 Boston city-wide police strike. The city came un-glued as most of its police went on strike after constantly being denied raises and other improvements they were promised before the war. The police made less money than street car drivers. The mayor of Boston ended up punching the idiot republican governor in the nose for countermanding a mayoral order to bring in the National Guard to keep the peace. That governor was Calvin Coolidge.Simon of the Playa wrote:holy fucking shit.
We can have the same thing today once the police and returning Iraq and Afghan vets see how they too are being screwed....they or their children. Revolutions really kick into gear when the cops and military began acting like citizens in a democracy.
