Great vid post Simon, shows the tears gas grenade being tossed into the crowd of medics trying to rescue Scott Olsen in Oakland and Pepper Spray Pike at UC Davis. This is what democracy look like. Jkisha, you can participate as much as you desire. Dec 17th is coming up and will be rather large on a global level, practicing what we preach is very important. Nothing will change as long as we keep supporting places like McDonalds and WalMart.

So WalMart is all about greed.. Is that why they offer me the lowest prices?
No I can not get the same product made in the USA at a 500% mark up at joe little's

You do know that most of that bail out loan has been forgiven..

How about demanding payment in full plus interest..

Occupy your law makers mail box..

There's only two items on that list that resonate with me (2&3). I love Christmas and I love buying presents and decorating and going to lost of Xmas parties. I'll protest for 2&3, but I'll shop where I want and spend money on what I enjoy spending it on. And I don't think that's hypocritical.

Here's a thought (not an original one, unfortunately, but a good one) why is it that the 1% are considered the job creators? It's the spending of the 99% that actually creates the demand, without which there would be no work. Hence, it's the 99% in fact that are the true job creators. Once again, it's the trickle up theory of economics that is always overlooked and under rated.

An update... I wrote an email to each of my OR senators, and my district's OR representative.

I posted the letter earlier, asking them about where they stand on the issues put forth by the OWS groups. I then specifically highlighted a couple of the issues.

I heard nothing from any of them. That surprises me, and tells me more than a little bit about our representative government's feelings on the Occupy movement.

It shouldnt surprise you. They represent the lobby money for fawkes sake. The politicians stopped representing the people a long time ago. Its all about greed and subjucation of an entire planet now. Liberty and Justice for those with the money. These issues were brought up prior to the movement and were ignored by politicians then.

I would not answer you ether.. OWS has not done anything but annoy the people they claim to represent.. OWS is looked upon as a bunch of crack pot, dope addict and street bums..

Write and ask your own questions.. number one... Why are we (the tax payers/people) are not being payed back the loan from the bail out.

Wall Street sweep 6 trillion off the world market.. Come screaming for a lone.. Then recovered in six weeks to pay out bonuses.. Then your rep's forgave most of the loans..

number two.. That there answer will help you decide how to vote..

THe list can go on and on. Write your own stuff.. Don't feed off a bunch of no producers..

Sweeping generalization. Again.

But your point is made: OWS, by its very leaderless philosophy, has no PR strategy. In these days, that's death. If OWS isn't minced, sliced and diced by the spin doctors of its opposition by this time next year, I'll have to assume that they put OWS in place on purpose.

I think they're working on honing their message. There were a few links posted here that indicate this is happening. And I don't know where you're getting your information UJH, but from what I am hearing, that's not the case at all--except maybe if all you watch is FOX noise.

I get my information from neighbours, shop keepers, the senior center and personal witness to occupy Salem and PDX..

It don't take a spin (media) doctor to see OWS has no purppose..

OWS has posed no questions.. Maybe some "shotgun effect" issues. And to hinge off of that with a letter????..

Rep. Schrader,

I'm curious what your opinions are on the various "Occupy" and "99%" movements, and how they influence and inform your legislative decisions.

Some topics of interest to me in particular:
Income Tax Code
Corporate Personhood
Social Security and Medicate
Eroding Middle Class
Bailing out large financial institutions

Thank you for taking the time to share your views with me.
That's my letter. That's a "dumbass" letter?

One more time..

Occupy has no influence on anyone or anything.. Other than annoying.. Occupy dose not represent the 99% in any way shape or form.. So there is no answer to your letter..

I don't personally agree with the Occupy movement.

I disagree with you that the letter has no answer. I would assume that my representation in Washington has some form of platform.

I would agree with you, that the silence I received from all three (both OR senators, and my district's Rep) is very telling of how my representation in the government perceives the movement.

You're taking this kind of personally. I'm afraid though, I'm going to have to uninvite you from my pizza party.

Sorry.

Let's see.

- Public funding of elections. It's a goal, and any step in that direction is a good beginning. Every few years we see laws passed and every few years we see non-citizens (i.e., corporations and other moneyed special interest groups) find loopholes. That should not keep us from continuing to try.

- Wall Street Reform. The Glass-Steagall act was passed in 1933 in the wake of events that led to the Great Depression. It was repealed in 1999. We need to get back to something like that, and there are some attempts to get back on track. This is where contacting your representatives would help. To me, it seems that there's too much emphasis on speculation with American business. If you want to gamble, go to Vegas. If you want to help your country, invent something, build something. This country was not built on fluff.

- Trim the defense budget. As a former serviceman (USNR and CARNG) I know full well how much fat and waste there is in the defense department. For instance, I see how millions if not billions are thrown into "studies" that everyone can see will never produce benefits for national defense. When a billion dollars is a tiny percentage of your budget, then you're spending too many tax dollars.

- Reform Social Security. This was originally conceived with the assumption that population was going to remain the same. It's time for the USA to admit that this was a stupid idea. The ideal would be individual retirement accounts, run exclusively by the government, similar to the bond system. The US government does not encourage investment in bonds right now, and seems to prefer borrowing from foreign countries. It's time to reverse that possibly dangerous trend right now. The trick to retiring the old Social Security system is that you'd have to phase it out in some manner that wouldn't cause a lot of disruption, but it would be worth it in the long run.

- We need real health care reform. Requiring everyone to buy health insurance is the most fucking retarded thing I've ever seen. We can do far better and you know it.

Nothing personal with you and I..

Asking you to not use the word occupy in your letters.. The word kills the whole letter..

If a group of whores, dug dealers, street bums and general dead beats come into my neighborhood what?? They set camp in the common areas I vote and (tax) payed for and destroy it.. Screaming into the air that they are against one of the seven deadly sins that some one else has committed.. Claiming they represent me and my neighbours.. You damn right I take that personal.. There are 300 million people in this country.. A few blocking the working stiffs from making a living is not 99%..

-.
Although I do agree with reforming SS, I disagree with a couple of points, above:

IIRC, SSI was meant, as named "Supplemental Security Income" meaning, every should plan for retirement, as best they can. Knowing, most individuals can and will do better than government, the system came about as a "supplement" for those who may not be as good at saving/planning. It was not meant to be the entire income for folks. I'd much rather see individuals, be responsible for providing for their own futures. And, yes, some will fall through the cracks.......I suppose the SSI would then be their only option. But, a huge gov. bureaucracy handling anything, is inherently inefficient, corrupt, and mishandled due to politics.

And I also seem to remember, the model based on an ever increasing work force/population, so that theoretically, there were always way more people paying in, than taking out, providing and eventual "slush fund" for times of reverse circumstances.

"Retirement" in those days, was mostly on your kids providing for you. This, was a dream, and a great one, to change that. It also depended on large corporations, providing private retirement benefits, and small and self employed business, planning on their own.

It got bastardized with "hand outs" and "entitlements", that had nothing to do with "original intent".
