Leaving San Pedro (Lost Angeles) Sunday morning bright, freshly showered, coffee filled and early. A nice $19.95 stay at the Golden Phoenix in Reno (thanks Maid Marian and Linda Gonzales {1-800-648-1828 code: GBURN04}) for one last bedsleep and fullshower, then Monday morning, BRC bound!

Look for us at camp In Dust We Trust at 4:00(ish) and Sedna (Gotta love da sleepins), or find us Thursday night near the Man for an ice cold, liquidy, liquory martini.

I can't believe we leave in less than 3 days!

Drive SAFE!

Peace, Love and Light,
Dennis and Molly

T-minus 24 hours, Gods willing. Have yet to hear from my caravan rendez-vous and we've yet to designate a hook-up site.

Just took a nap and I'm still sleepy. Shirt is still soaked with rain and sweat from packing today. Consolidation efforts thus far: seven boxes into three, including redistribution of items I formerly packed in a 30-gallon trash can. Astounding. I'm getting a crash course in smart packing and it's working.

No dulce de leche cheesecake, I'm afraid. I'll make some chocolate cream cheese squares out there :D

Me too... if you see a white Chevy crew-cab dually pickup with a big camper with grey/black stripes, towing a trailer with the Playa Cruiser on it,... that'll be me!

Dulce de Leche cheesecake recipe

Post by diane o'thirst » Fri Aug 27, 2004 12:21 am

Here ya go —

Ingredients:
1 1/3 c. graham cracker crumbs
1/3 c. butter or margarine, melted
1 T sugar
1 package chocolate-covered caramels, such as Riesen's
1 T milk
1 envelope unflavoured gelatin
1/4 c. rum, preferably dark, or milk
24 oz. cream cheese, room temp
14 oz (1 can) sweetened condensed milk
2 3/4 cups whipped cream
1/4 cup caramel topping
Optional: Mini Nestle's Crunch with Caramel candy bars, diagonally quartered

Method:
1. Coat bottom of 8" springform pan with cooking spray. Combine first 3 ingredients. Press crumbs into bottom and 1" up side of pan. Freeze 10 minutes.

2. Melt caramels and add 1T milk, stir until smoothe. Pour over crust in pan, quickly spread an even layer. Refrigerate. Sprinkle gelatin in rum and let stand for 5 minutes; heat until warm, stir until smoothe. Set aside.

3. Beat cream cheese until fluffy, medium-high speed for ~ 4 minutes. Beat in condensed milk. Reduce speed to low; gradually beat in gelatin mixture. At medium high speed, beat until blended, 1 minute. Fold in whipped cream; pour over crust. Refrigerate at least 6 hours, remove sides of pan.

4. With a dry, warm knife, score the top of the cake into 12 sections and decorate each slice with a whipped cream rosette and a piece of candy bar. Drizzle caramel topping over the whole thing, slice and serve up.

Coming from Seattle at 5.5 miles per gallon in previously mentioned crew-cab dually towing the 'Cruiser, I'll be going pretty slowly (19,000 pounds!!), sorry to hold you up if you get stuck back there on a hill, but I'll make it up to you with a ride on the Playa!

Well... It's confession time for Dr. Tzu.

I am leaving Monday AM, but I don't have a designated camp. CBA recomended Hushville (us old farts need our rest, peace and quiet now and then) but their registration is closed. I know nothing about any of the other camps or anyone in them (yeah, I don't get out much, so I don't know too many people) I held off making arrangements because I'm shy! (Really! Sorta'... usually... well, in this case...)
Soooo... any recomendations? I'm self sufficient as far as food, water, sleeping arrangements, etc... I just don't have a place to plant it all. Uh... help? :?

Um find an nice spot and set up. Then get to know your nieghbors. It's not the only option, but it's an option that doesn't depend on any of us seeing your post and having space.

Tonight or tomorrow morning, depending on when Chef gets here with his monstrous beast, I was caravanning with the Eugene Burners but nothing ever coalesced...typical for this town, big scene, lots of people, NO COORDINATION!

We can't get away until Wednesday morning but I'm hoping to be on the road before dawn. Thankfully being a Renoite (Renoan?) makes for a short trip. Save us a spot betwen 7:00 and 9:00.

If we can get the room that late in the week we plan to have a couple of easy-up shelters for shade, carpeting to protect feet from the playa and we will have our camp set up as a reading room. We are bringing a couple of boxes of books and magazines so if you see shelters with stars and beads hanging from them come on over put your feet up and read a book or magazine.

Hooking up with a caravan coming at noon tomorrow. We're meeting in the Delta Oaks Wal Mart parking lot, EugeneOregon, off Beltline westbound. Stock up at WalMart, GI Joe's, Michael's and Market of Choice. Then off to the Playa with stops in Oakridge for root beer floats, lunch in K-Falls and gas in Alturas.

Join the caravan! :D
