I thought about bringing my disk.. but I don't have a portable basket. My friend bought a portable basket for around $150 from a sports shop, he practices in his back yard.

it would be simple to just use extrapipe and chains to make a few holes. maybe bring obstacles for next year

Too late this year but next year I was considering setting up a glow disc course. I would have a to build a few baskets but I think it would be worth it.

Wow - that sounds like fun... we can always just practice driving, no?

Wasn't planning on it, but maybe I'll bring a driver and a putter for kicks.

How about TUESDAY - 4:20p - Esplanade and 9:00 Keyhole...?

I put "Frisbee on the Playa" in the WWW, so maybe this will work.

I will pack a driver and putter. This sounds awesome. Maybe there will be some objects we can use to play a few holes.

I can imagine an upwind shot on the playa has got to be insane.

There are several shots i cannot throw. I have dislocated my shoulder three seperate times playing disc golf so now I am limited in how I throw until I go in for physical therapy.

As an old time frisbee golfer who stopped playing around 1998, I cannot believe someone would pay $150 for a pole or basket. What the fuck?

Get on the playa, plan out your holes as you go, or take a quick trip and figure it out. Hole 1 green starts at center camp and goes out to the lamppost at 6:30 and esplanade. From there, you need to contact the front bumper of the burned out art car used as a fire pit in front of the theme camp 100 yards away. Third hole is a moving target - some zonked out dude on a bike who's willing to be hit with frisbees in exchange for a beer.

$150 pole and baskets my ass.

Totally - we can make up the course as we go!

So again - I'm hoping to meet up with some of you other disc-golfers at 4:20 where the 9:00 keyhole meets the Esplanade... :)

I was wondering why you would need to bring obstacles. The playa is already filled with all kinds of stationary and moving obstacles anyway!

I am not thinking of bringing targets this year. Next year though I am thinking of making targets of my choice. Simple things like cutouts of a persons head the basket is in the mouth. Line the mouth with el wire and then at every hole setup a blacklight to charge glow discs. And then add other targets as it goes. All in all I would think of building a nine hole course best used with putters.

They make discs that glow. They charge easily under a blacklight. They are pretty bright. I am going to bring my glow driver. We take it out to forrest events out here and scare the piss out of the djs.

I think Tuesday should work. I will definitely try to remember. I will be at 8:30 and Mercury with the Rainforrest Refugee Camp so if you find the need to throw a disc around at any other time come grab me.

I have an ultimate style disc with led's and fiber optics that's great for playing catch, but not so good on distance. Although, golf scores are rarely the main focus of my disc golf game.

I also have a disc that I got from Frisbeetarian.com founder justfred last year, It will be packed along with the glow disc.

You could play a basketless game in the night with a course forerunner who had 3 or 4 glowsticks/blinkies and a bicycle who would select the targets for each hole and gather the targets after the goup passed the hole.

I guess it's just a matter of getting a group to meet at a designated place/time.

Frisbee Camp...

Post by jgotshal » Mon Aug 30, 2004 11:13 pm

Check on Frisbee camp - a group of brothers from back East had a set-up last year. I believe they played ultimate at the foot of the man every sunset.

I caught a game with them the night we burnt him down and had a really great time - cool folks.

Why don't we make a course through the city.

Someone should get busy on course design, somebody else a map, and someone else busy on material collection, and somebody on basket constructions. I'll help when I get there!

Leave a note at dis-info with a general point of contact...
