Yes, I am viciously plotting to keep Elliot alive, by keeping him engaged, by trying to get him to commit to each day in turn, and then hope to lead him along the treacherous paths of life by offering up opportunities to commit to longer and longer periods of time. Then I will RULE the WORLD!!! BWA-HA-HAHAHA-HA!

Bombarding his PM inbox with lots of unwanted PM message also proved effective.

The problem is that that is self-limiting. Once he has a hundred messages he has to actively get rid of some for new messages get into the inbox. So, at some point he just gets the pop-up every time he gets a new one, but can then can pretty much ignore it.

So, having a varied strategy is best.

So even though I am not paranoid, it turns out that you are all conniving against me!

Seriously, I stand by my "business" allegory as a valid concept. But instead of measuring the windows for plywood to board the shop up with, as I was doing ten days ago, I am now studying many of the brochures for new "visions and missions" that youse guys have sent me.

And I have been deleting old PMs to make sure there is room in the in-box, yes. :D

I'm really more mezzo- or contralto than Brunhilde. How about Roßweiße?

:D Good morning, Clearlake! (voice of Robin Williams in "Good morning Vietnam")

Feeling almost feisty today. Only 45 F in the house this morning, but I was still out of bed around 8. Gregg Allman Band's "I'm no angel" on the stereo -- just that one song on continuous repeat. I can be a bad boy if I must.

OOOOoooh feisty is a good thing! I'm glad you had a great time with your friends! I'm assuming you neighbor will bring breakfast over again!
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

We went close to 24 hours with no post on this thread. So presumably none of us is currently practicing knot-tying while standing on an upturned bucket. :D

Ahh.... Ben Franklin.... Thank you. We could discuss "that" or "who", but this would have to be on a different thread. :D

Is it my statement or Franklin's quote we are talking about tattooing? I say it is my statement, based on Gaminwench's color coding in my quote.

Next, BBadger edited his post about Franklin while I was typing a response. So we have quite a mess on the floor here. Isn't it wonderful! Nobody's even close to killing themselves over this! :D

Awww right, enough of the frivolity and happiness. We're supposed to be dying here.

Eleven months ago, in The Great New Years Day Snowfall, my front yard thuja (sp) took some damage. I trussed it up with a sturdy boat-anchor rope. Today I removed the rope -- the shrub having recovered reasonably over the summer. One hecka fine hangin-rope, I reckon.

I studied that rope for a while, but I did not study any beams in the barn for a good place to tie it. A nice change for me.

Hola Elliot!

I'm just checking in on you...I've been a bit wiped out since this began. I read the thread and scanned the excellent links posted. All really good stuff!

Eh hem, I'm also half Viking! Ygmir knows this and the "Hof" awaits any and all, Viking or not, I'm guessing...and I have booze! (or tea or coffee)

By the way, The Kid returned, with MORE dogs, one is a Rotweiler puppy! It's great to have him back and his help. We may be headed your way, someday, someway...keep an open mind Elliot...no need to tidy up and we can camp out in the yard or the primo shop you built. It wouldn't be the first burner shop we've crashed in! No pressure of course....but we are good company I promise you that.

When I get my ski shack whipped into shape, we're gonna celebrate here too....just ask Grai, he's been here it's a unique spot a bit ramshackle/messy, but a schweeeet location.

Work, work, work has piled up, back to the salt mine I go....
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!

I'm reading a book of humor. Enough of E. A. Poe for a while! This is S. J. Perelman, Eastward Ha!. Almost slapstick in ink-on-paper. Reminds me of Dickens' "Pickwick Papers". Yet, ropes and buckets intrude. I'll jump straight onto page 33, near the middle, and paraphrase for clarity. Our protagonist was visiting Paris, expecting a festive evening, when none of his contacts answered their telephones. He thought to himself:

"Was I to wind up alone in my hotel room, reading a yellowed Tauchnitz edition of Goethe's Conversations with Eckermann? Better the Seine and a suicide's grave...."

Well, I'll forgive Perelman and enjoy the rest of it.

---------------------------

(As for Poe, his poem Alone hits me at home. Specially the first part of it. Don't have it here right now.)
