Savannah, check out KAIA if they have one in your area. It is team oriented (women only) and tough as hell. You go at your own pace of course but the teamwork makes me want to strive to push myself more. You may want to wait until your foot is better though...Hope your healing quickens.
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

A symbolic act.
I just took the last of the ice cream out of the freezer and set the tub up-side-down in the sink to melt and drain. It was poor quality ice cream or I would not have done it, but in this case... having bought a cheap product turned out to facilitate this symbolic act.
The gym has recumbent stationary bicycles -- much more comfortable than the old upright bicycle style.
208 pounds.

Elliot, I too am an ice cream addict. There is none in my freezer right now and I plan on keeping it that way (at least for a while).

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
My recumbent bike was the key to losing my 25 lbs a couple of years ago, and I still use it to keep the heart rate up if I feel a period of inactivity. So much easier on the back and crotch! I wheel mine in front of the TV and put on the Playstation for a good 45 mins @ 20mph.Elliot wrote: The gym has recumbent stationary bicycles -- much more comfortable than the old upright bicycle style.
I swear that it's improved my manual dexterity while under physical stress/exertion as well..
You can find a used one on CL for usually pretty cheap.. I think I paid about $80 for mine and it's a very decent Schwinn. Pick one up and make a rule with yourself: 5 days a week, you will do it for 45 mins a day. You'll see results fairly quickly!

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
AntiM, how about you request one at your gym? Recumbents are common now -- my Live Well "gym" has one, and my physical therapy "gym" had two. Your gym will probably want to stay current.

I can ask, can't hurt to ask!
I have a Gazelle at home, but it got "piled" with stuff around it. I have to talk to Larry about that.
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club

All my kinetic racing vehicles and Playa vehicles have a recumbent seating position. It's no contest.
Decades ago, recumbent bikes were banned from bicycle racing because they were so much faster.
I can no longer ride much on upright bikes because of worn joints in my neck, but recumbents are no problem.
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
that picture is fabulous Elliot!
are all of your bikes able to float on water or is that a specific setup?

Thanx! Many of my pedal vehicles are amphibious. We build them for Kinetic Sculpture Racing, which is what I'm involved with in that picture. (Note feet of glorious spectators in the background.) This particular trike requires no changes at all between land and water. Others require installation of pontoons or whatnot.lazerfox wrote:that picture is fabulous Elliot!

Just got back from the gym. Four days, and I'm not disgusted yet! I'm dodging the coach so he has not been able to assign me more exercises yet.
Training with the rich and famous
So there I am, wrestling with some infernal machine featuring cables and pulleys, and in walks the best dentist in Lake County. As my dentist, we know he must be rich. And as the former mayor of Clearlake who awarded me 1st prize in a Christmas Parade a few years ago, he is famous. So I'm training in good company!

My surgeon wants me to take it easy before the surgery, I can go to the pool, but I can't do any of the ab exercises. Easy to comply because it is unseasonably cold, and the hernia pinches and stabs a lot lately. Boo!
Elliot, but aren't you famous too?

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
You are very close, AntiM. The exact word is "infamous".
One time when Tom (my dentist) presented me with a bill for over $900 for a crown, I wisecracked that he must have a boat payment due. Tom replied "No, all my boats are paid for." (My emphasis)
(Obviously), I can both see and feel if I have stuffed too much food in my belly in the last 24 hours, or gone mildly hungry for a day. The food intake tends to go into runaway mode (as in a runaway train) in the evening. ("Who can eat just one cookie?") Last few days, I've eaten oranges and apples in the evening, instead of the usual bread and such. But this does not seem to make a difference. Must be simply the volume of food that I'm looking at -- short term, I mean. Hopefully, the type of food will make a difference in the long run.

Hey!! Good for you Elliot! That's 7 lbs! Iweighed in at 191.5 two days ago.
I'm 189.2 today! It's amazing how giving up soda, and stuffing ones face all night long with sweets will do for you!! (talking about me here!)

So the healthy weight for six-footers like us two is supposed to be 175. That might be a realistic long term goal, but we don't want to injure ourselves rushing there. So how about 180 for you and 190 for me -- by New Years Eve. Weigh-in at Midnight. Removal of clothing to reduce total weight permitted. Live by web-cams.
I'm kidding about the web cams, but ten pounds in three weeks should be realistic? We are up against the Christmas goodies of course, but that precisely the point -- a defense against the holiday ham. Portion control, folks.
Thoughts?

1-2 lbs per week for sustainable results is what I see recommended over and over again, but 3 is not impossible--especially for men; less estrogen. Estrogen makes weight loss a little slower for women. To lose weight any quicker than 1-2 lbs a week, one generally has to be doing something dramatic, so if you're determined to do 3 lbs/week watch out for your joints, and be careful not to starve yourself (or your metabolism may rebel).I'm kidding about the web cams, but ten pounds in three weeks should be realistic? Huzzah for progress!
I gained weight while on an estrogen blocker. My metabolism is slow as molasses, slower if I starve. More fiber, more fresh food.
My hernia is becoming more painful, so I am pretty much immobile. Surgery next Wednesday, so this is not going to be my week for progress.

Well, Savannah informs us that three pounds a week is a bit much. And there is the Christmas cookie problem. So how about 185 and 195? That's just five pounds in almost a month!

If you provide the cameras and other technical gear. My puter does not even have a sound card in it.
I'm certainly not going to let you win over the weight of a pair of shoe laces or some such!

I watched this documentary called "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead". It was a good one! So I've decided to "juice" for 5 days and cleanse my body. And if I like it I'll juice during the day and have a healthy meal at night. If you can access it on the internet, you should all watch it.!
