Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hello! Hadn't made it to the introductions page yet so I thought I'd say hi! My name is Jessica (Jess, Jesse, Jett, whatever works lol) I'm 20 and live in the very exciting land of Missouri, I'm a big hippie at heart. 2012 will be my first burn, but we have some great regionals which is nice. My best friend and I are planning to make 3,000 mile roundtrip in my little car, which should be interesting to try and fit all our clothes, tent, shade, food and water, bikes, and selves lol. My dad is ex military and kept us out camping for the majority of my childhood so I'm really looking forward to 7 days on the playa
. Going to Burning Man is actually on my bucket list so I'm really excited to accomplish that! Sorry if this is rambling lol

20 year olds have bucket lists? How depressing. But welcome nonetheless.
Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hi JesseGrrl!
You're right--two people in a small car is going to be an interesting fit.
(I managed it once with a friend, but we had a prearrangement to share shade brought by someone else.) Thank goodness you have lots of experience with camping--and some with regionals. This might help you be ruthless about what you bring.
You could look at theme camps that provide meal plans, water or shade to remove some of the big items from your pack list, although of course being part of a theme camp generally involves work or fees (or both). So if you go that route, make sure it's a camp whose ideas you enjoy.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm pretty good at packing and our shade folds up pretty small which is nice
I guess having a bucket list does seem a bit macabre, but when my sister started spending more time in the ICU than at home I decided to figure out what I want to do in life and do it. It's never too early to make your dreams come true

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

That sounds good to me. I never went through an "invincible" phase either.I guess having a bucket list does seem a bit macabre, but when my sister started spending more time in the ICU than at home I decided to figure out what I want to do in life and do it.

Hi my name is julien , i come from a far planet lost in the space , i have take the apparence of a human to do not scared them... My broken spaceship is located in france but because of missing parts i can't use it, so i'm traveling around the world to find them. I come to burning man 2011 with 3 human friends with who i traveled in canada and west usa , one of friends tells about burning man , art in the festival, the city which appears, so we decided to go! I have imagined lot of things but what i have seen was higher or bigger( i dont know the good word) the art everywhere and so amazing, the fires ( the trojan horse was spectacular it remember me some old stories of my planet... Sniff) all the activities ( climbing wall ) and the openminded people, people who share, people who cook for others, the nice people ,the nice rangers who save me!!! I have not found any parts of my spaceship but i have found a great community with lot of similar ideas and wants, desires... I want to come back this year and bring something of me for all, i dont know what at least but i will find it!

We may have found the Saucer Section of your space ship, Julien. This snap shot was taken in my front yard a few years ago. The cause of the crash seems to have been a witch strike -- a Halloween witch (on flying broom) being ingested into the engine intake. Alas, I have since discarded all the components, so you may be stuck here on Earth.

Hey fellow burners!
I'm not a newbe to eplya per se. I haven't been on though since around April, when our computer caught a nasty virus, but thats another story. For now I'm using a laptop.
Anyways, I'm Thecatman. I hope to get reaquainted with those I've conversed with in the past.... and hope to meet many new folks.
I'm hoping 2012 will be my first burn since 2010. I have 7 cats, hense my name, and one dog.
Eplaya sure has changed since the last time I was on.

It's just two satellite dishes -- the big ones that people used a couple of decades ago to watch television from Mars. And a plastic flower pot and some such junk. Nuttin to it. I called it "Roswell Revisited".

So I'm the FNG-- here goes.
First time burned 1996 and missed only two intervening years, once due to poor planning (1999) and last year because in 2010 was badly injured Sunday afternoon at 8:30 and Esplanade-- was walking along and was suddenly hit from behind by a female riding a bike at a high rate of speed. Last I heard was "Look out!" WHAM! Taken to REMSA aid station and then taken to Reno hospital. Caused a real hardship on my camp mates. Broke left tibia plateau in eight places. Non weight bearing for 4 months. Lost work (and income) with no sick pay since I'm self-employed) and although a real bummer learned a lot about myself, about patience, tolerance of others, willingness to be dependent on others offering help, reinforced sympathy for others with physical limitations and a more general slowing down of fast-lane life. The 20 something lady that hit me just took off... she did give contact info to one of the many witnesses, but the name/number/address given all turns out to be bogus. Took a long painful recovery but now back in the saddle ready to go! Medical bills still pouring in.
Bonus: Thanks to a fine orthopaedic surgeon and dedication to daily PT the fully healed (well, 95%) left knee is stronger than it was before-- will go skiing again this winter and get back to other deeply missed winter and summer sports.
Love all aspects of the Black Rock NCA and visit there often in the 'off' season to camp and explore. God bless this beautiful place, tread lightly and leave no trace!

Hello, Renolaw! Welcome to the board.
I'm sorry to hear about your 2010 Burn and the after effects. Your attitude about it is impressive, in my opinion.

Of course, I cannot speak for renolaw, but having had something similar happen to me, and being slapped with the "inspiration" identity, I will say that most people go ahead and live their lives as fully as possible within the limitations of their bodies. Maybe fewer in the states, because we are a spoiled and entitled lot, but in general nobody wants to spend their live whining, so eventually most of us do pick ourselves up and go on...Savannah wrote: I'm sorry to hear about your 2010 Burn and the after effects.
