UD I love that movie, and loved the book before that story hit the screen. Jerzy Kosinski taught me that clear-eyed cynicism and sincere hope can coexist comfortably in a well informed mind.

Dylan Ratigan is always like that, heck some episodes he's worse. Well... maybe not always two minute rant.. but what he talks about in that clip is what he's been talking about for a long time now.

gyre, from what I know.. he used to be on CNBC, and left around the time of the meltdown. Later in 09 he started to show up on Morning Joe and other MSNBC programs. He had a mid morning show on MSNBC for a bit, and now has an afternoon show. Also his first book will be out next month.

if most of us, are separated by "6" degrees........it seems, all the famous people you know and hang with, all the inventions and projects you've worked on, and, all the things you've done, would put you in the "1 degree" set, where you, for whatever reason the Universe has deemed fit, seem to know more famous people, and have been involved with more "cutting edge" things, than the rest of us.

I never met Kosinski, but he has a fascinating story.
His ideas about how differently we are treated according to the identities people assign to us, is almost archetypal.

Some people I meet, it isn't accidental at all, but a choice anyone could make, like Fuller or Roddenberry.
The nasa whiz kid I knew, that was random, he actually called me first.
But I sure took the opportunity to talk to him.

Some stuff is just a memphis thing.
We're not impressed by someone just being famous.
Because of this, lots of well known people like being here.
I found out Steve Jobs' house was very near my neighborhood.
Once people knew who he was, they protected his privacy.
Ringo Starr said he's never been in a city so relaxing for him.

A lot of people are just very accessible.
I called Dik Browne up once and he was as friendly as his reputation.

It just has to do with being curious.
By far, most of the remarkable people I meet are not famous.

my point, exactly.
you run in circles of the rich and famous, touch them seemingly at will.
you invent and improve things, all the time.
you have more "random" encounters, with famous people that are willing to chat, discuss, and brainstorm with you, than anyone I know. Hell, some even seek you out?
Not to mention, I know you are sought after, for technical advice and teachings, especially regarding audio equipment.

I stand by my "1 degree" statement.
