My point was that we need experienced system design engineers to fix these kind of issues. It's not one of those issues where we can pull some solution up our you-know-what. And I have been eating some popcorn and monitoring some of the potential drama threads.
In my world there's only legible and more legible.

I couldn't get halfway through the gate thread... so much hypothetical theorizing and too little time/attention span!
My gate experience was fine. I don't lend much credence to the "don't get out of your vehicle" exhortations. I mean, who can sit in their car for 8 hours straight while in park for 90% of the time and watch everyone else get out, socialize and stretch their legs, go potty, etc? Screw that, I need to do something besides stare at the other guy's bumper for hour upon hour. Our search was not even a search. A guy came on the bus, made sure we each had a ticket, asked if we "had anything we shouldn't have" and gave us a schpiel and thanked us. Never even asked to look in the trailer. The most chaotic part of the whole deal was getting past the gate while 5 lanes of traffic attempted to go straight while half the vehicles in said lanes attempted to turn left across the lanes to get to will-call. That was a cluster fuck for about 10 minutes, then we were in. No biggie.

I did'nt mind people getting out of their cars.
It was the ones not paying attention to when the line would start moving and keeping the gaps closed up!

We made sure there was someone with the bus all the time, in case the line moves. Of course this just seems like common sense but I can see where it would break down if there were just one person in the vehicle to start with.FIGJAM wrote:I did'nt mind people getting out of their cars.

Once you get on the highway it will not be fast sailing at all due to the line of cars. I live about 120 miles from BRC and it would normally take 2 hours or less to get there. Going home it took me about 4 hours to get there.
It's weird for me living so close. When it's time to leave I am in a quandry, knowing my real bed is so close and it would feel really good to have a real shower and bed at home vs I live so close why not stay and not worry about a little extra time in exodus...Next year I'm gonna stay till tuesday!

I did plan on staying until monday this past year. I was gonna break everything down except the yurt and have everything packed and ready to go. Once I started breaking things down and packing it up, I got to the point of "fuck it, may as well head out"
Next year I'm not packing anything up until Tuesday morning. That's the plan for now anyways...

You're welcome. Don't feel the need to follow along and read all the responses. Now that you've started a thread you've given us a new playground where we'll continue to post and reply for years after the topic has been exhausted. Some day in 2013 you'll come back and see this thread is up to page 234 and we're discussing the finer points of bacon or exhaust systems, or both.JesseGrrl2009 wrote:Haven't checked this thread in a few days, just wanted to say thanks to all those who answered my questions, I feel much more prepared

If I may expound on your analogy, imagine said Crisco cans, running away, across the desert, to some sort of promised land/playa.JStep wrote:I had pictured hundreds of Crisco cans all running away.

Re: Shortening Exodus
Sad reality is that more people = exponentially longer exodus.
Solutions are difficult or expensive. Obvious ideas fail outright. Be interesting to see how this gets solved.
- fewer vehicles / bus fleet / parking in Fernly? Vehicles are already packed with either people or stuff or both. It's hard to condense further. But some percentage of people could shift riders and gear to a tour bus for trip in. Worth study.
- Road improvements? Add a third lane. Expensive. Not likely. Improving the Jungo road would allow 10-20% of traffic to go that way. Might work with careful planning and execution. Also expensive.
- Spread entry and exit over multiple days. Some tickets for Monday to Monday and some Tuesday to Tuesday and some Sunday to Sunday. Would help and is affordable. But hard to enforce.
