So glad this thread needs bumping now!
But that ...#$%^&*... X-mas is just a couple of days away -- when Interstate 5 will be gridlocked at Lost Hills (200 miles from nowhere) with people going to Grandma's house -- so a bit more thread drift of the cheer-me-up kind may be in order. And a ton of laughs are available right here on this very board:

That's the start of the Stupid Jokes thread. Over the last two or three days I've read the first ten pages. Sure, there are some klinkers, and some drivel, and some reruns, but on the whole that thread is a wealth of Funny Stuff.

Re: Suicidal Tendencies
Well, I finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel, and it wasn't a train! Somehow, somewhere, something gave me the presence of mind to open my eyes and remove the darkness from my life.
I'm feeling alive again. I'm finally putting myself first and looking happily into the future. and the future looks bright! I'm using my positiveness to good use instead of allowing negativeness to overcome my whole being!
That said, I thank ALLof you for standing by me during these past few months. I love you all.

Re: Suicidal Tendencies
So… a little thinking session that came out of the blue. Perhaps something about the nature of suicidal tendencies.
There is a choice to be made.
I have lived 60 years. And by the statistical average I have 15 years left to live. Now I can choose to lament the lousy results of the first 60, and spare myself 15 more of the same.
Or I can choose to discard the first 60 and tear into the next 15 with optimism.
Nothing new there, of course.
The problem arises when the subject finds himself without the capability of making the choice. Stuck sitting on the fence, torn both ways one second to the next, like a runaway pendulum. Desperation mounts.
Is this still old hat? Is this well understood by all those with a reasonable education, or at least by those with strong education in a related field?
If so, then I missed out – missed out on learning and understanding this at an early age. Stay in school, folks.
It might be interesting to look at suicide statistics as relates to intelligence and education. ???
All right…. I’m currently tearing into the marvelous 15 years in front of me, with mounting gusto – I think. Maybe having "been dead" for a couple of weeks....
But there is so much to learn and to understand. Leaving the past behind is good in one sense, but there is also the old truism about learning from experience.
Dang, I’m not usually up at 2:30 a.m.!
See ya tomorrow.
Re: Suicidal Tendencies
I would note that the holidays aren't as much a time for depression, as the time after the holidays.
I had a girlfriend that would organize an "orphan's" thanksgiving and christmas party each year.
Seemed to be fun for a lot of people without other plans.
Elliot, I would remind you again that statistics don't apply to individuals.
And I think your lifespan figures are out of date.
The past doesn't have to be a predictor for the future.
And often isn't.
A change in thinking, or a change in actions is all it takes.
The odd thing to me, is why you think there has to be a decision.
What do you want to do next?

Re: Suicidal Tendencies
Next I want to start working on my fleet of 16 Playa bikes. They all need maintenance, and if I service one bike a day, most days (like going to the gym), they will all be ready in January instead of late August! Same with several other annual and otherwise-existing projects. This should allow me to experiment with new things, such as costumes, without the sword of must-do projects hanging over my head.gyre wrote:What do you want to do next?
Re: Suicidal Tendencies
Sounds good, Elliot.
Re: Suicidal Tendencies
Two men walk into a bar, just a few decades ago. One recently graduated as an engineer, and he holds forth to his friend about his ability to make make quick and accurate calculations. After a while the friend has his fill of this, and proposes a quick test. The engineer whips out his slide rule.gyre wrote:And I think your lifespan figures are out of date.
"What is two times two?"
In a flash, the engineer replies "Five!"
"I think your answer is out of date."
The engineer puts his reading glasses on and hunkers down over the slide rule. "You are correct. It is closer to four. Hmmm.... 4.105, to be exact."
No relevance to Gyre's post, but it sure reminded me of it. According to Wikipedia, I can expect to live to 75.4.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... expectancy
So I stand corrected; I have 15.4 to go, not 15.
Dang, I feel feisty this morning. Maybe I should stay up late more often!
Thanks!gyre wrote:Sounds good, Elliot.
Re: Suicidal Tendencies
On a different topic. You may recall that a while back I dreamed that I killed my father.
A cousin has suggested that we dream the opposite of what we wish. I would have to take some time and try to remember a representative sample of other dreams, but if my cousin is right, then I don't hate my father but perhaps miss him.
Thoughts? Opinions? Knowledge?

I disagree that dreams are the opposite of what we wish..........If it were so, it's mean I want to have sex with fat, ugly men.......
I also believe, there are many "types" of dreams, and not all originate internally.

I always knew my cousin was an idiot.
(Ygmir, you forgot "old".
That could certainly be, and my cousin's information may not be entirely false.ygmir wrote:I also believe, there are many "types" of dreams, and not all originate internally.

I purposely left "old" out, Elltiot:
I enjoy women, of all ages. All beautiful, in some way.
@Doc:
I'm so hoping, you didn't mistake this for the fantasy thread.............now put that thing away. Go slam it in a car door or something.
how's this for thread drift?
