I'm an experienced press operator...a dying trade. I can make kilts...useless. I can drive big trucks...I'm tired of killing things. I want to serve food...mainly BBQ or Hot Dogs.
Im applying for every job I see. Even relying on my BM experience to get Bar Back positions.

Tom, you know that the economy is dying. You would be well advised to find a niche that has a future. China has choked off the export of "rare earths". The U.S. GOV is going wild to find alternate supplies. They're fit to be tied.
Mountain Pass, Ca has a huge more-or-less dormant rare-earth mine. Molycorp is doing a huge expansion.
http://www.molycorp.com/
I'm very familiar with heavy equipment and heavy hauling. Mines, especially are always looking for guys who will be contentious with expensive equipment. Youtube has lots of pics of million dollar trucks turned over.
Molycorp is hiring. Rare earths are in such demand that, the mines will never shut down.
While Mountain pass is pretty sucky compared to Benecia, you might have to follow the money. You can drive a Leibherr in the daytime and have a BBQ joint job in the evening.

Rabbi Rick wants to operate a Cajun BBQ /food cart. A partnership made in heaven.

This is some economic survival course. Dunno if it's free. Dunno if it's worthwhile. "The event is three hours of audio plus two downloadable PDF documents containing action items,"

The "doomers' have some fact,, some fiction.
Jim Rogers says that the U.K. will need a bailout.

NYT says that Greece will default;
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/06/busin ... ss&emc=rss
Dunno why GB doesn't just print pounds. They're not constrained by the EMU.
When Greece defaults, it will take down Spanish and Portuguese debt. Who knows what country will blow first?

Rabbi, I believe that you have mistaken the intentions of my "poodle". I provoked him to go WAY beyond the T.O.S. He's trying to return the favor. He got bitch-slapped by a moderator and it really stung. My poodle is following me around and squatting to defecate on everything that I post in the hopes that he can get me riled up.
It's irrelevant to him how much nastiness he brings to the board / e-playans. Not being equipped for any kind of cerebral battle, he has to work with he's got. My poodle follows me around and craps on everything. S.O.P. from SOP.

I calls them as i sees them.

im afraid it is you who has been leaving turds everywhere you go on these boards...
i'd rather be a poodle than a fucking Chihuahua, Taco Bell Boy.
your yap yap yap of copy paste paste is the issue, not my calling you out on your bullshit.
continue to post crap and i will continue to point out the piles.

Dougly, I'll give it a try. There is plenty of negative crap flying around without my addition. If I just post sunshine and good vibes, it won't really make any difference.
OK, employment is the basis of survival for everyone who isn't a hunter-gatherer. Continuity of employment is all-important. Never having much trust in our Government regulated economy, I was always on the lookout for something with continuity.
Number one with continuity is,,, death and taxes. I never wanted to be a hit-man or a mortician so that didn't appeal. I didn't want to be a tax-collector either. I stay as far as possible from GOV. \
Next on the list after "death and taxes" is trash. Trash never stops. So, I left engineering and got a job with a trash company. There is money in the business. One guy that I knew bought a few Rolls Royces and a Ferrari. In this area the owners tend to be Armenians. They burn down trucks of competitors. They're pretty flaky also. I got out of that and looked for the next best thing.
I decided on food. Food is quite necessary and not likely to stop flowing. Protein is VERY popular. There are only a few segments of any supply chain that make decent money. Retail isn't very profitable. I didn't want to work around a slaughterhouse so, meat was out. I settled on the wholesale egg business. There is a fair bit of margin if you pick the right part of the business.
As incomes diminish, people shift from meat to eggs. The business is growing. People cut back on their luxury purchases as their discretionary spending is curtailed. They continue to buy food.
If you seek employment, I would avoid sectors that depend on discretionary spending. If you can afford to be picky, I would look for a segment of an industry that has a decent margin. Traditionally, that has been aerospace and defense. That is winding down as contracts are cut back. The entertainment industry is doing well in many areas. What good is "bread" without "circuses" ?
Meridith Whitney is adamant that Munis are going to default badly. I would advise against looking for a job that involves office work. The market will be flooded with former state and county and city employees.
Traditionally, the liquor industry does well in a downturn. You might look for a position in the wholesale liquor business. It's a matter of analyzing an industry for continuity and profit potential. The SOONER that you find an employment slot, the better you will do at avoiding the rapidly growing hordes of job-seekers.
Tom, if you can drive a truck and a forklift, you should check out liquor distributors. Show them your abilities and they'll put in charge of their warehouse. I wish you luck.

On a good day, I learn something new. NASA speculates that we'll get hit by solar storms. The resulting coronal mass ejection is an energy storm that hits the earth. Our magnetosphere deflects most of it. NASA has recently announced that there are some big holes in our magnetosphere. Our power grid acts as an antenna for this energy. The resultant surge knocks out [burns out] the main power transformers. I just read that we don't even manufacture these transformers in this country. The wait time is 18 to 24 months for a replacement.
A republican congressman has a warning for you about all this;

This is old hat. They have been tracking these storms from the 1700s..
The storms should peak in May next year.. Last big "strom peak" was 1923.. It knocked out all teleagrahp. But a guy in Boston and another in NY disconected there batteries.. They talked for over an hour with the electric static in the wires.. In the 40s the northen lights would shine bright as day in north Wisc..

I read tons of site that all tell you how to protect your wealth. They tell you how to protect your wealth and profit during bad times. They talk about all the opportunities to profit from shortages in energy and food. They make no mention of the widespread suffering that is soon to be the norm for so many people.
There is one site, The Automatic Earth that has proved to be very prescient. They are re-formatting their site to showcase survival strategies. This is a vid they have prepared for a start.
This is their site; http://theautomaticearth.blogspot.com/2 ... 3-and.html
I'm well prepared in most ways. The thing that I am not prepared for is; to watch hundreds of other people starve. Radical self-preparedness is fine for many. Do we just let Nature take care of the rest?

Y'all have to be on the lookout for terrorists. Who are these terrorists, you ask. GOV has the answer; "DHS Video Characterizes White Americans as Most Likely Terrorists" http://www.infowars.com/dhs-video-chara ... errorists/
Don't forget now; "most likely terrorists, such as Ron Paul supporters, gun owners, gold bullion enthusiasts"

Re: Survival
It's amazing. Those god damn terrorists are everywhere.
"Oath Keepers Exclusive: An FBI Denver Joint Terrorism Task Force handout being distributed to Colorado military surplus store owners lists the purchase of popular preparedness items and firearms accessories as “suspicious” and “potential indicators of terrorist activities,” instructing store owners to keep records on and report people who:
“Make bulk purchase of items to include:
Weatherproofed ammunition or match containers
Meals Ready to Eat
Night Vision Devices; night flashlights; gas masks
High capacity magazines
Bi-pods or tri-pods for rifles”
http://oathkeepers.org/oath/2011/08/10/7769/
I guess that only terrorists buy "night flashlights". Normal people buy "day" flashlights.

No where in the article does he admonish people to actually learn to use the gun.

Thanks, CSS.

I've gotten the solar array done (not officially hooked to the grid yet, but, built and hooked up), topped off with 1200 gallons of propane, 10 cords of oak firewood. I'm hoping to soon finish putting my centrifuge system for making diesel engine fuel from WMO in place and begin processing.

Sure, I get it, it's strictly a source of clean fuel right?ygmir wrote:I've gotten the solar array done (not officially hooked to the grid yet, but, built and hooked up), topped off with 1200 gallons of propane, 10 cords of oak firewood.
