But, taken in the context of "opposites", using "old" in your "inverse dream hypothesis", it would imply, only wanting sex with young women.Elliot wrote:For sure! I did not want to imply any such thoughts, as relates to me.

Re: Suicidal Tendencies
My kids' uncle, their Mom's brother, my brother-in-law decided there was no silver bullet to solve his problem with depression so he used a lead one last night. Successful lawyer, father of two young children (elementary school), no warning. Just "boom". He actually made it into the parking lot of an "acute crises center", but never went inside. He said in letters he mailed to family members that it would only prolong the agony. His kids are going to hate Christmas for the rest of their lives, probably.

This phenomenon would seem to be a key obstacle to prevention/intervention.geekster wrote: He said... (...an acute crisis center...) ...would only prolong the agony.
Sounds to me like he drove to that facility only to aid in the disposal of his body. Other victims have died outside hospitals and funeral parlors. Minimize the trauma for the family. I've had the same idea.
Geekster, please accept my condolences.

Re: Suicidal Tendencies
He didn't do himself in there. Apparently he drove there some time before he shot himself because he talked about it in letters he mailed to his wife, mother, and siblings. Apparently he wanted them to know that he had considered but rejected the idea. What he did was check in to a hotel then sat down at the curb in the parking lot next to his car and did it there.Sounds to me like he drove to that facility only to aid in the disposal of his body.
He created a facebook page a few days before, friended most of the family, then left one single posting right before he did it that simply said "I love you all" and that was it. This wasn't something that was spur of the moment. It was premeditated. Apparently he had been carrying on an affair for 15 years with a high-school sweetheart he had first dated when he was 14. I guess that can cause stress in one's life. She apparently broke things off with him and that was the trigger but nobody is really going to know the whole story, I don't think.

Re: Suicidal Tendencies
Nine days without a post -- mental healthiness has broken out all over the land!
About that business of dreams.
I'm reading a novel where the protagonist suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and he talks of sweating profusely during nightmares.
And earlier, somewhere else (non-fiction), I've read that we do not remember the many dreams we have while we sleep; but only the last one, the one that is still more-or-less running when we wake up.
Third, I used to find myself soaked in sweat in the middle of the night, quite often. For some time -- years -- it was routine for me to change my shirt and pillow in the middle of the night.
Finally, there was the recent dream, out of the blue, where I killed my father.
Putting these four items together, it occurs to me that I may have had a lot of narsty dreams that I do not remember. I used to think of the sweating as a result of temperature changes in the house; the number of blankets I had over me, and maybe kicked off me; that sort of thing. Now I'm not so sure. Considering how close I have been to Intolerable Desperation, maybe years of "secret" nightmares would explain some things? Is this plausible?
Thoughts? Knowledge?
Re: Suicidal Tendencies
Maybe?
I sleep cold, but often wake up too hot, and I don't think that usually relates to dreams, just comfort.
But it sounds like you're talking about a more dramatic experience.
