web access on the playa

Post by palilly » Wed Sep 01, 2004 10:42 pm

how easy is it to get online on the playa? I've been waiting for my wife to get in touch with me since Sat and I haven't heard a peep. I'm beginning to worry, but I won't if it is more difficult to get on than we thought.

web access

There isn't easy web access on the playa as far as I know - but there is a wireless network so that those who have wireless laptops etc can use the network. She might not have been able to find someone/someplace to get internet access

I spoke to my boy on Sunday, but not since then - it seems the network has been up and down, and it depends on him being able to recharge a battery.

You might try leaving a message for her on the playanet which she can reply to at playa information, but that does require her knowing to look for messages at playa info.

Good luck, and don't worry too much :)

No problem - its hard to know what to expect and what access (and other things) might be like if you haven't been before/yourself.

But brace yourself for enchanting ravings when she comes home!

I appreciate your concern and desrie to know your wife is ok (which she is. You definitely would have heard from someone if anything was wrong. Good, caring people there), however, one of the charms of Burning Man is being cut off from "civilization" for a week. I'm one of the people who believes that cell phones and email are going to spoil that special aspect of it. Soon enough we'll have cell phones working EVERYWHERE on earth and each night on the playa you'll see people strolling the Esplanade with phones against their ears, describing or sending back instant snapshots of everything to their friends and family back home. I'm not looking forward to that.
