Re: Why does Burningman suck now?
every single person who comes on here to complain should be asked this question.remi wrote:Questions: If you think it sucks, then why are you still on this forum talking smack? Why are you still planning on buying a ticket? Why are you still gonna go next year? Why spend money and do something that sucks?

Re: Why does Burningman suck now?
I was just playing around. I don't know if it's getting worse or not because i'm still a burgin. You have to admit tho, it would be a neat experiment to see how long people would go to an event that is purposely making it terrible. Please don't try that experiement with BM tho..trilobyte wrote:Now, now, be nice.
Can you at least admit that nuclear explosions are awesome!?

People complaining about some aspect of the event has been going on for many years. Hell, look at this old thread you guys have been resurrecting - it's from the 2007 event.

I kind of look at it like that old saying that it's OK for me to talk smack about my mother/wife/family, but it's not OK for someone else to do it. If people didn't care, they wouldn't complain. it doesn't mean they don't like the event.graidawg wrote:every single person who comes on here to complain should be asked this question.remi wrote:Questions: If you think it sucks, then why are you still on this forum talking smack? Just pretend you love Burning Man and you see that it's going in a direction that you feel is against its best interest. And let's just pretend you're not the type to lay down passively and accept it.
What then? Go away?

Why does 2007 suck now? Because it's like a history lesson? Who cares, er, knows why the 07 burn sucked... at least it wasn't better than last year!!!

Kinda reminds me of my favorite Onion article. I can't find it at the moment but it was something to the effect of...

Burning Man's always sucked...to someone. They add new levels of suckiness to keep the population down. Can you imagine how shitty it'd be if it didn't suck?!

Re: Why does Burningman suck now?
Have gone for decade. This was the first year that it didn't suck more than the previous. Must have been the good weather, playa surface conditions, and sold out tickets meant fewer last minute clueless drop ins.
Still was a bummer when my bike got stolen from Center Camp. Was a gifted bike left over last year Wednesday two day after Labor Day a friend recycled. Why can't people wait till after the Burn to start lifting bikes. Also signs now start disappearing on Thursday. Default world behaviorisms, grab what you can get.

Re: Why does Burningman suck now?
2012 will be my 6th year in a row.
It has been my experience that my attitude directly contributes to the suckieness or awesomeness of each burn. I am in full control of my attitude and approach. If I expect it to suck, it will. If I adapt, adjust, and appreciate each moment, my burn is so much better. In short, I participate as much as I can, volunteering, helping my fellow burners when I can. I try to prepare as much as possible, and wing it once I have playa dust in between my toes...
To expect each burn to be the same as the last one is, in my opinion, highly unrealistic. Change is a natural.
I have always wondered, what, exactly makes a previous burn so much better than the current one?? I see a lot of complaints about how Burning Man is getting worse, but never any rational explanations as to why that is so...
