2012 - End of the World: Good News and Bad News

Post by CornMan » Sun Jan 01, 2012 4:32 pm

I'll give the good news first about the Mayan calender predicting the end of the world: we'll have until Dec. 21, 2012 before the prediction of what is reputed to be our collective, cataclysmic deaths. This is good news because Burning Man 2012 runs from Aug. 27, 2012 to Sept. 3, 2012, which is scheduled plenty early before the end of times. No worry there.

The bad news is that such prior end of the world predictions have come and gone without any tragic event taking place which may make us leery of the validity of the 2012 prediction thus causing us to be unprepared for the apocalypse. Instead of preparing our actions, beliefs, and feelings to correspond with the end of times, we may fall into a false sense of security. By this, I mean we may be lazy with our natural patterns of living where our authentic feelings overrule the feelings that might better be prepared for the end of our fates. I believe that this is the last major end of the world prediction, so after Dec. 21, and if the prediction proves false, we can live our lives as naturally as we wish.

You seriously underestimate the human capacity for stupidity.

True, alas. I thought we made it through the year 2000 okay and that would be it. Some folks never learn...

Yup, as long as people believe in immaculate conception and resurrection, there will continue to be end of the world predictions.
