Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I've been using the military army/marine PFTs as a goal as well, even though I was never in the military. Then 2 mile run is the easy part for me, but I have never had really good upper body strength. Right now I am stuck on about 30 push ups and 6 pull ups. Want to get to 50 push ups and 10 pull ups at least. My daydream is to get a perfect score.Ugly Dougly wrote: I've been trying to get back to the fitness level I had in the military: 2 mile run, 50 pushups, 50 situps. So far I can barely run a mile. Meeting cute ladies at the hot tub after the workout is a good motivator for me!

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I will now attempt a run for the first time in a month, 'cause the gym is just too far on a non-work day.
Feet, don't fail me now.

Lady Of The Lake sparkling pear wine will be served in Da Bar #3 throughout the evening.

Any further attempts to enter the Fitness Club until "next year" should expect to be faced with this:

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
Gah! I found an old photo of myself when I was MUCH heavier, talk about motivation to maintain my current weight loss and continue dropping excess pounds, whew!
I use a Champion Juicer, a few pointers I've learned over the years;
put the small and exotic/expensive ingredients through first, then finish up with lower cost stuff (carrots, apples etc)
be sure to stir and sip the juice, mix it with your saliva, it works better
diabetics should be cautious not to over do it with sweet juice
the Champion makes nut butter and frozen fruit sorbets (you use the solid plate instead of the screen) you might need to special order the solid plate, it's worth it!
peanuts are dangerous, the word is they contain a mold and not to eat them. they are also notorious for causing allergy issues (maybe it's the mold?)
almond butter works for me, but it's costly and messy (I often just buy it at winco)
the clean up for making nut butter with a Champion is a hassle-mare and a lot of nuts don't grind through, costly & wasteful (I let winco suffer through this)
frozen fruit through the Champion, wow! incredible treat, my favorites are:
watermelon, honeydew, cantalope, etc 100% frozen melon (of any kind) sorbet, very very gooood! (I'm a purist and do not mix the melons) also melon should be eaten separately, give it time to digest (an hour or so) then eat other foods.
bananas, these make an incredible creamy, frozen, almost ice cream-like treat, yum!
any fruits and berries etc frozen make great sorbet 100% fruit, schweet! (can be fun to mix em up, like oranges and some black type berries)
I've tried re-freezing all of the above, doesn't work so well, it just becomes a solid block. I suggest eating the frozen, softie-like treats asap!
From the Raw Foods Institute in San Diego: Buying used Champion juicers and used Vita Mixers is usually a safe bet on Ebay, Amazon etc., the motors last and last, and you save a LOT of money.
Be sure to use some veg or olive oil to lube the Champion Juicer's motor shaft, it prevents the grinder thing from getting stuck or rusted on, especially if you live in Hawaii or near the ocean/salty climate. Also, wash the screen out very well, the veg and or fruit fibers are like glue and if allowed to dry up, they cause a hassle-mare to clean out of the screen.
I found a Champion Juicer for $5 at a yard sale and gifted it to a burner couple I know. These juicers are NOT cheap, but they make the frozen treats and last and are easy to clean up, therefore I am a fan of the Champion (but any juicer is better than none, the $30 jobs would be welcome in my home if ever needed) I've had my juicer for over 20 years, still works just fine and it's been put through some harsh usage.
wash everything you juice and not all rinds, seeds and stems etc are good for you, they can also make the juice taste bitter.
for apples, I use on of those handy dandy apple corers, shaped like a disc with blades inside, set it on the apple and bang it in with your hand just a little bit, then push through entire apple until it splits the apple into slices, chuck the core out and juice/eat the slices, very fast and effecient IMO.
some of the fiber can be added back into the juice or cook muffins etc with it, or compost/trash can/garbage disposal the fiber.
Happy Juicing!

Walked to the Post Office today. I've bicycled there many times, but this was the first walk. Two hours solid. Longest walk in many years. Then I went to the gym.
If I can just stop stuffing my face with all these delicious carbohydrates, I'll be a Greek god soon!

Good Work Everybody!!! Great way to start off the new year. Personally, I put on 5lbs over the Holidays, but it was worth it! I'll be back counting calories again starting tomorrow.
And BD, a special shout out for quitting smoking.

Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

It's okay, Maryanimal! Sometimes it's unavoidable. Heck, when you're happy with your overall fitness progress it might be the occasional treat, if you want it. Relieves a little pressure so that you don't go nuts.maryanimal wrote:Hooray for:

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
This morning I had a glass of carrots, apple, ginger juice. Yumm...moonrise wrote: some of the fiber can be added back into the juice or cook muffins etc with it, or compost/trash can/garbage disposal the fiber.
But I used to always feel guilty about wasting the pulp. Carrot muffin and stuff is just more flour and sugar. There is no point drinking juice and then eating these muffins. I hardly consider them healthy.
Then I found this recipe and I tried it. It's really easy to make. It's fantastic and healthy!
Honey tastes great and you can replace eggs with fresh apple sauce (not the store bought ones).
----------------------
Carrot Pulp Whole Wheat Bread
2/3 cup of vegetable oil
3/4 cup of honey
2 eggs
1-1 /2 cups of carrot pulp (I use any pulp I have left)
1-1 /2 cups of whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of sea salt (optional)
Mix the oil and honey together as well as you can, then add the eggs and mix again. Stir in the carrot pulp. Now add the remaining ingredients and mix well ... pour the resulting concoction into a greased loaf pan (measuring approximately 8-1/2" X 4-1/2" X 2-5/8") ... and bake in a pre-heated 350°F oven for 60 to 65 minutes.
------------------
And the leftover pulp goes to the horses. Everyone happy.
In my world there's only legible and more legible.

I actually ran...for the first time since I stopped smoking last fall...today at the gym without puking...granted I only ran 1/2 mile (ok 4/10s
) but logged a total of 3 miles and ran straight out once each mile....
I should mention that I'm doing this cardio thing so I can stop taking blood pressure meds cuz I think most pills have too many side effects and I have enough residual side effects from "back when"
anyway my doctor told me if i would spend 30-45 min 3x/week on cardio that I might be able to get it down enough that I can stop...
