Who was that band???

Thursday night, 2004, after midnite, next to Disorient, I heard some of the best music ever at BM -- drum, base, guitar, DJ and those four women with the most beautiful harmonies, singing in Arabic and Hebrew and ???

If anyone can tell me the name of that band, so I can chanse their CDs and concerts down, I'll be mightily appreciative!!

Though they weren't next to Disorent, I believe you are describing Hamsa Lila, as they have the same type of lineup. They played Thursday night on a stage somewhere near the middle of the esplanade, thought I can't remember exactly where.

Thanks so much for the heads up. I checked out Hamsa Lila's Web site, and they sound awesome. A couple of the players look familiar, too. I'm ordering their CD soon.

But... I know I was next to Disorient, west of Stonehenge, between 1 and 2 a.m. (time not streets) on Thursday. The band I saw was less ethnic, more driving funky techno, with those four beautiful females singing.

Maybe it was an after show jam that Hamsa Lila members had with some other players?

I think I saw the same group... late Thursday night, but at the time there was a dj with a drum machine, a completely awesome bassist, a guy on a sitar (and another odd stringed instrument), and a girl with elf ears singing.

They were playing in a big red dome at 10 o'clock and Venus (Earth?), but definetely west of stonehenge.

The pics of Hamsa Lila didn't look familiar to me, but I'll be sure to check 'em out.

I saw an awesome band on a stage on the esplanade. I'm not sure what/who they were. It was just some guys with regular type instruments (guitar, bass, drums & a singer)

I was really, really impressed by F-Space who was just set up on the playa. Those guys rock!! I was blown away by the flaming coil spring instrument. It was shooting out fire and he was gettin' down on that coil, smacking some sticks against it. That was one of the highlights of music for me. it was almost an industrial kind of band. I am bumed I missed Mutaytor though.

f-space was incredible, and made my entire trip to burning man worthwhile. i thought all music like that had disappeared from the playa and been replaced by the identical trance sound systems.

Um... Hamsa Lila DID play at Disorient on Thursday night... 2 sets, punctuated by DJ Lorin.

They didn't play with a drum machine, tho - that was all live drumming...!!!

and yes, it was some of the best music ever!

I got a CD from that band, and am on their e-mail list now.

The band with the girl with elf-ears singing, awesome sitar player on the side (among ohter instruments), bass player, and electronic drums (DJ style) was called Ubzorb, and it looks like they are based out of the bay area from their e-mails. They played in that big red-dome thing, I don't remember if it was Thursday night or not. But they were awesome!
