So I began (slowly) working on my art car about four months ago. After my great first BM experience lastyear of sucking in a ton for myself,
I wanted to make something to give back to the community this year.
Unluckily, I ran into some personal and technical problems and the project was postponed indefinitely. It wasn't even until today that I decided there might be a chance that I can even bring myself to this years event. Either way, I plan on continuing work on the car for next years event. Here's what I'm shooting for:
The foundation of the car is a 1988 Club Car gas golf cart that I bought salvaged and got running after a few months of troubleshooting with virtually no idea where to start. I guess I'd dub it "a small scale art car to move around myself (driving) plus a single person or couple." I'd have a semi-strict no talking policy because the ride would be to stress the overall intense atmosphere that BM puts off- the same atmosphere that can go overlooked easily through too much partying, heat, under-eating, stress, etc. Throughout the ride, I'd have a fully loaded Ipod with a mini surround sound system of sorts playing relaxing music of my choice, including anything from Experimental music such as Plastikman to quiet ragtime like Scott Joplin. A comfy, clean couch (yes, dust is clean  ) and good views would aid in the relaxation.
Beyond this, I was going to leave the rest of the 'artistic' side of the car for later days of production that I never saw. I was considering stretching the car and using couches and small, suspended LED lighting to add to the minimalist atmosphere. Furthermore, I toyed with the idea of making some kind of way that the rider(s) could be incorporated with the music by including some kind of mixing hardware or software (via PC) but I think this might deter from the feeling that I'm trying to get across- that of relaxation and...intelligence?
I remember at times lastyear during the late nights where the immediate excitement wore off and I didn't want to party much anymore. I didn't want to go to bed, but I also didn't want to be alone or lose touch with the BM environment. I feel that my car will help people get stay/get back in touch with the environment that was so important to me last year, the same one I'll be missing dearly this year
Just wanted to throw the idea out for some feedback of any kind. Best of wishes to all you headed to the event.

My art car (idea)
A few thoughts after having brought an art car for the first time:
People won't want to sit quietly and enjoy the experience. They'll want to talk to you, to each other, to random people you pass by, etc.
Even if you tell them you only have room for 1 or 2, 12 will try to jump on at once. Add more seating if you can.
If you wait until the end to do that "art stuff" it will show. You'll have yet another golf cat with minimal art thrown on. Come up with a design early and build according to that design. Think about the overall shape and the lighting. Don't go minimal.. go big, even if it's just lighting that looks really cool from a distance.

I don't know that art cars are actually out of hand, it's just that people are pissed about the new rules. People get more pissy about half assed art cars than they did before. It seemed like there were actually fewer of them than the last few years. My car was a little crude but I plan on correcting that for next year. It is SO much fun to hook up with random people to give them a ride or go exploring.
