Virgin trying to make 2012
I have been wanting to go to Burning Man for as long as I can remember. This year I am making it happen (as long as I can get tickets) and ending my virgin status in the burning world. I want to be a part of Burning Man and not just an observer. I am in Charlotte NC and have found a few sites (Dirty Southern Burners, Transformus) that I am going to become active on and hopefully find a way to contribute. If anyone has any other ideas I am all ears. I am really hoping my tickets get approved and then it is plan plan plan.

Welcome to Eplaya! As far as a contribution, I think for your first year it's all about BEING there. Helping out if you see anybody trying to set up a tent, make something, chug a beer. Making sure you have everything YOU need to survive and not have to depend on other burners. It's my first year, too, and I hope to see you there!

Welcome to the board! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only first time birgin from the South going out there (I'm from Mississippi, so you have me beat on the drive), but it's definitely going to be an amazing experience. Are you planning on going by yourself, or trying to get in with a camp or what?

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

I have some friends in CA that are on the fence about going. They really want to but they are trying to work out $ and all. If I have to go on my own then I will do just that and make friends along the way. Nothing (except not getting a ticket) is going to stop me this year. I have so many things that I would love to do at Burning Man but they will become realities over time. This year is all about sleeping in a tent and soaking in as much as I can. I am going to talk to people from now until then and if I end up in a camp even better. I am really not trying to set expectations on my first time out there. I have to say that yesterday was an amazing day for me. I posted on eplaya finally reaching out and I get a warm welcome from many people. Last night I went for drinks with a friend and tell him my plans to go to Burning Man. He tells me he knows a bunch of guys that have a big group that have been going to Burning Man for years that he can hook me up with. I also get a text from my cousin in SF telling me she knows people that go to Burning Man and can hook me up with them too. What you give to the Universe, you will receive back !

Hey Chris! I am still working out how I am getting out there but I think I am going to be shipping gear to LA and then flying out there to meet up with friends and drive in.
