well, you're all welcome.

Alas, Fishy, the last 6 miles is gravel, rough but not 4 wheel drive, but pretty rough.MagicMart could probable give you a better assesment, from an urban dwelling point of view......but, about 100' is 4x4.
But, when we have a party, if you wanna come, no worries gettin ya up there.
and, I'll do my best, to have stuff ready, so you can get around.

Yeah Elliot, the bus might be tough......not saying you can't get it there, you can. But, parts of the road, are super narrow, only one lane for a couple of miles, and, probably a 70 degree slope, off the side, with nothing to catch you for a quarter mile.
but, if you get to the bottom of my drive there is parking there for the bus.....and, we can shuttle you up.

I'm betting Triken, and her trike, could go up there.........

Ygmir, have you ever explained to your congregation what a "hof" is? As I understand it, a hof (hov in modern Norwegian) is an Old Norse building used as a pagan temple and banquet hall. In Norse mythology, the gods held some quite lively feasts in such halls.

That's how I understood it (hof, that is)… great hall. Hofbrau was the great drinking hall (assuming the brau is an ancestor of brew, as in where they make and keep the hooch)

Babelfish translates German "hof" to English "yard". In this context, I interpret "yard" as "grounds", as in fairgrounds, which fits right in with banquet hall. Does that make sense?

Etymologically, the Old Norse word hof is the same as the German word hof, meaning a farm or a court, and the former is still its primary meaning in some Scandinavian languages. During the Viking Age, it appears to have displaced older terms for a sacred place, vé, hörgr, lundr, and vin, particularly in the West Norse linguistic area, namely Norway and Iceland. It is the dominant word for a temple in the Icelandic sagas, but is rare in skaldic poetry.[1]

So, what I get out of that is that "hofbrau" is beer garden...
Although, looking at wiki again, I get brewery...
Locally, historically (i.e. 100 years ago), a hofbrau was a lunch place, (a workingman's lunch place?) steam tables, perhaps, (although I don't know when that technology came up or what it replaced), with the chosen items dished out for the--
Okay, I don't really understand it. I also don't know how to find it on the web.

:D
"Court" is even closer than "yard". Garden, festival grounds -- sure, beer garden.

But "Hofbrau"? Why turn it around? Hof Brau sounds to me like "garden beer". Feast Beer, Party Beer. Beer intended for special occasions. In Norway to this day, they sell specially brewed and labeled beers at Christmas, called Jule Øl = Yule Ale. These beers are stronger than allowed the rest of the year. Any left unsold by a certain date must be destroyed or sold outside Norway. I've seen one here in California, probably this time of year.

Locally -- here in the USA -- restaurants are among the worst sinners when it comes to perverting foreign words into business names. Same thing world wide. We've all seen pictures of ridiculous signs in foreign countries. There was one here on e-playa just a couple of days ago: "Child Beer". I reckon they meant "cold beer" and tried for "chilled beer". To an American business owner, "Brauhof " or "Hofbrau" is strictly a matter of what sounds better as a business name to his ears.
