Thank you Burning Man

Post by Tabula Rasa Mistress » Mon Sep 06, 2004 2:07 pm

Once again, another Burn, another wave of sadness, mingled with some depression, some anxiety (returning to reality after 8 days in Black Rock was damn tough, this morning), and longing... We left BRC at 2pm Sunday, and arrived in Southern Cali around 2am... Burners littered the ride home, but the sadness at missing the Temple burn (again) was over-bearing... We have a 4 and a half year old starting kindergarten tomorrow, so time did not allow another moment at our home away from home... We left 3 last members of Tabula Rasa to represent at the Temple burn... To see the impressions my husband and I left after 3 trips to the gorgeous piece of art... To inhale the real spirit of Burning Man... Our camp (the first we've put together) was a huge success, and for that, I am so grateful... For all the Burners who attended our Full Moon Playa Blessing Ritual, Monday night... To the 100 plus Burners who spent time in our jewelry tent, to the 400 plus Burners we served exotic alcoholic drinks to (and a few virgin ones to some adorable baby burners) and our incredible neighbors... Venus and 5:30 was an awesome street to live at this year... The white outs sucked (we lost two Burners Thursday night) and a few Burning Man volunteers were real jerks, but, all in all, this was another experience I will cherish always... From lengthy conversations with 10 year plus Burners, to twinkling wonderment in the eyes of virgins... From sitting in our Playaterium Friday night with a beautiful girl from the Women's Temple, to dancing under the stars on the open Playa with my Love Saturday night... I count the days, as many Burners do, until the day I come home again... Thank you, Burning Man…

Thank you, Burning Man Staff & Volunteers!!!!
I got the opportunity to DJ the Exodus for BMIR on Sunday this year, which meant I had to monitor the staff radio channel for two hours ( to pass along gate info).
What I heard was two solid hours of problems being detected, analyzed, and solved with speed and good humour. Keep in mind that this was at the ass end of the Burn weekend, when everyone could have been expected to be stressed out and cynical. Instead I heard folks treating each other and the "citizens" with respect and affection. Wow.
In some ways, I would have liked to have piped the radio directly into the broadcast so that everyone could hear how professionally these volunteers deal with the problems we citizens mostly don't even see (and generally consider someone else's problem). Of course, with my luck, that would be just when DPW discovers another couch tossed into a burn platform, and the FCC would shut us down for the language :D. I volunteered a chunk of my time to various orgs around the city this year, and I'll try and do more next year.

Thanks to the dedicated staff and volunteers!

Much Love,
Bartholomew
