I think they are Pioneers...I think they were not canceled.

I think that you're right about them being in the Pioneers. As for the Young Pioneers being canceled, no they were not canceled, they still exist and are run by local communist parties in Russia and have even gained a lot of support in China. (One of my friends, Mishka, is an exchange student from Russia and he was part of them when she was younger.... and here's a semi-current, 2009, article talking about them http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2009/05/17/ ... 242604752/.) Also, I have no clue what they're saying, but it's kinda catchy.

Oh, I know what they are singing. It's Katuisha, from the late 1930s. It's the one the rockets were named after. I actually have an obsession--well maybe an over-interest--in it. I must have at least 8 versions on my ipod. I could certainly post more from u-tube. It is, in its way, classically Russian. It starts off with the girl ("Katy" or "Little Katy") on the bank of a river, surrounded by birch trees, reading a letter from her boyfriend who's off in the war...
(No, I don't speak Russian. This is just so...look, I'm not sure, but this may have been on the version of Tetris I had 20+ years ago. At any rate, this just gets under my skin, so I guess I check on the lyrics often enough for some of it to sink in.)
