Dancing with Fire...

Post by JessicaHele » Wed Sep 08, 2004 2:28 pm

:?:

I live in San Francisco and decided, after attending this year and just being blown away, to finally get my ass in gear and learn how to spin/dance with fire.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go to learn or who is a good and not too costly teacher here in town?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Lots of love to all, Jessica

I want to take this time to say that I was mesmerized by those poi fire spinners. I saw two people in particular, I believe it was Thursday night. One guy with a red sweater and a younger woman who were breathtakingly beautiful with every move... I wouldn't mind learing how to do that myself. it's such an awesome talent and it must feel great to have people cheering for you and loving every second of it..

I just stood there, jaw to the ground, in awe. I can't wait to share my pictures, I got some really great ones of these two fire-spinners.

Fire Teaching

Post by phyreseed » Thu Sep 09, 2004 12:20 pm

hey there..

as a fellow fire spinner, I wanted to point out to you that anyone who's trying to charge for lessons is most likely ripping you off. This isn't to say that there aren't teachers out there *worth* paying for (see Nick Woolsey at www.thevenue.org), but I've found a large portion of SF spinners to have their heads up their asses about teaching, to be frank. This isn't true for everyone (and I'm hoping that I'm woefully underinformed on this) but those that I've met have a rather large ego to go with their tiny brains... ie they don't want to teach because then they won't be cool or unique anymore.

Anyway, enough bashing... you should take a look at www.homeofpoi.com for some free instructional videos.. it's how I learned (though I'll never claim I'm the best). Also, if you ever happen to be in the Sacramento area, I'd be happy to take some time to show you the basics that I've learned over the years in my dabbling.

Good luck, and don't give up... sometimes it's going to hurt, but that's how you know you've done something wrong!

Thank you so much for the help and advice.

I am truly grateful. And tight on funds as well. I was just so blown away this past year and would love to go out next year and really let it rip and give back just a bit of what was given to me this past week plus.

Much love to you, J

here are the pics I took. I thought I had some of the girl I spoke about, but I must have ran out of batteries or been to hypnotized to snap a shot.
