Respect, Fishy! I've never tried the arm bike, but I've seen one at the gym & it looks challenging.

Congratulations on your running! I wasn't really a runner 'til a few years ago. It was something I really had to creep up on . . . run/walk, run/walk, finally more running than walking. I can't believe you don't already do cardio 3 times a week, based on your avatars. (How on earth are you getting that definition without cardio? Is it all weights + lucky genes?) I have a tendency towards borderline BP myself . . . have to do cardio, have to keep my weight down, but the most dramatic difference in blood pressure came when I gave up coffee for the summer. Right now of course, I'm back on the coffee.

My own current fitness: not bad--for this time of year. Managed 3 workouts a week (1 dance class, 1 recumbent bike session + weights, & 1 run) for January so far, but it's snowed this week, the gym shut down, & running is impossible with 3-season shoes, so this week will be the exception. Maybe I should look for a yoga class on cable. Yoga's awesome, but an in-person class tends to kick my ass so much better.

I'll guess I'll throw my hat into the ring here as well.... I've just started exercising for the first time ever (in a gym, at least). I haven't done any kinda of physical exercise since I stopped doing martial arts 4 years ago and have gone from 180 to 220. I just always excused it with the fact that I always had a paper to write, or a study group to go to or whatever... and now I'm done with excuses and want to get back into shape. But, let me tell you, damn am I out of shape... I have a lot of work to do. Oh and the fact that I'm an endomorph doesn't help things. But, enough excuses, on with the work! :D

Glad somebody bumped this again. took a week off from KAIA around the holidays and now back on 5 days a week 1 hour a day with KAIA boot camp. For me it is the only thing that really works and I actually look forward to going (no I'm not lying) I know that if I miss a day or 2 (1 day not so bad) that it is just that much harder to get back to it. It's hard and it kicks your ass...now if I can just master the munchies all will be well.
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

I don't have it at a difficult setting yet. I'm just trying to get into using it. I bought it off a famous website that I am no longer using (or naming) because it did something nasty to local stores for xmas. I am limited in what I can do for exercise. I have a swimming suit, but who wants to swim in winter?
See, I could join a gym for <$300 per annum.

It is harder to motivate oneself to swim in Winter (frankly, it's harder to do anything).

$300/yr is a really good deal . . .

Swimming is perhaps the most healthful among all forms of exercise. That CalStar program sounds fabulous. Winter has nothing to do with it -- we live all year 'round. Go for it!

No hanging of heads! A goal of January can be merely Not to Hate Life. That's what I'm working on. I consider it a victory that I registered for my ticket without making any (known) typos! :)

So what if you wait 'til . . . February?

Mostly it's about coming home with wet hair. (Hair dryers are the most boring thing in the universe, and I haven't figured out how to read while using one.) Well, actually the whole commute thing. I can take one of two buses, or I can drive. (I should be able to find some parking nearby, but it's totally student madness going on.) I want a pool two blocks away, darn it!

I have a friend that always tells anyone who puts themselves down in his house "we don't shame ourselves in this house" he's mexican and has a thick accent abd everyone laughs...but everyone loves it too!!! we all say it now....so.....no shaming yourself at the eplaya fitness club!

Savannah..I've been doing weights since right before my 50th bday just couldn't force myself to bring in the 2nd half of my century outashape, for a myriad of reasons...since I started taking care of my mom I've struggled making it to the gym 4x a week so I figured cardio would be a good alternative...I've lost a little size  but it does make running easier

hooray for all of us for doing our best...even in the winter!! And hooray for know (known)typos!!

I lost five pounds using the food tracker on sparkpeople, however, this week I am unabashedly on vacation. I am mindful of what I am eating, but not trying at all to keep to the restricted caloric intake dictated by the nutritionist. This is what gets me into trouble in the long haul, so I have to think about it... sometime.

I thought I'd walk more, but the scar tissue issue is still restricting movement.

When I'm doing swim aerobics, I go home from the pool on two buses with wet hair. My hair is shorter now, which helps, no way do I want to schlep a hair dryer back and forth. I haven't done the commute in freezing temps just yet. I will, soon, and bitch about it.

Just got done at the gym, did some cardio and weights. But, I have to get on it, this guy I'm interested in wants me to go on a 30 mile (roundtrip) bike-ride with him. Which, considering I haven't ridden a bike in probably 20 years now, plus am out of shape.....yeah......

It's beginning to feel like a law of nature that a frogbird cannot perform more than 6 chin-ups. Yesterday I gave out at five, then five again, and then six before bed. I actually got almost halfway up to the seventh - so maybe I am getting close. It's annoying because I have been here at 6 since mid-November.

Seven is going to be almost as big a victory as one was in August.

All this cardio talk makes me want to start running again - I have not gone for a run since late September, but it is just hard when it cold, wet, and dark by 5:15 pm here.

You won't regret getting back into biking when the Burn rolls around. (I remember more than one ePlayan remarking post-Burn about how all the biking around the city was surprisingly ass-kicking.) Might also gives you a chance to figure out what kinda seat you want; it makes a big difference to have a gel seat, gel cover, fluffy cover, whathaveyou.

Day 3 of snow and slush, and my work gym is still closed. Grrrrrrr. Maybe I should go for a brisk hike. I am out of paper towels and champagne. Pure savagery.

Oh dear. If you can't keep em clean and get em drunk the natives are likely to be quite combative.

Arghhhhh!

Ok no way this flabby belly is coming to BM.

Doing 40 mins each day dancing. It's the only form of exercise I don't hate. I think It works because I'm always out of breath and sweaty at the end. Also sit-ups. I must have abs!

Hey BeyondIndigo, is this your first visit to the "fitness club"? If so, then welcome!

A LESSON IN PATIENCE:
You may recall I started going to The Gym at the beginning of December. I went six days a week and quickly became Super-workout-man, piling on the weights on the exercise machines and making record-speed progress in strength and endurance. That lasted about five weeks, and then the shoulder pain set in. I had overdone it.
It took a couple of weeks of not-working-out, and Ibuprofen, and now I'm starting over -- with a gentler program. Lesson learned; be careful not to overdo it when you start out training.

That is all, carry on -- patiently.
:D

I've been doing 30-45 min walking exercise tapes for 3 days now. One of my goals is to do something for 30 minutes per day just to get into the habit. If I can find 30 minutes to sit on my ass and read, I can find 30 minutes to exercise. I just can't do it late at night or I can't sleep. The hardest part is just getting the first step, the rest is easy.
Gosh I wish this stupid town had a good dance place. fookin cowboy-town. Feh!
