Would one be allowed to launch sky lantern's at BM?
You think any permit would be required?
As far as I can tell, MOOP can be a problem.

Someone else may remember the thread and link it, though.
Sigh! Yeah, I thought so...ygmir wrote:there was quite a discussion of this in a thread........I forget which one, but essentially, due to moop and fire danger (when landing), consensus was "no", don't do it.

Anyways, I now donate this thread for any other substantive conversation.

dang.
For some reason I can just imagine one getting stuck in the Man and setting it on fire....like, Tuesday night or something.wh..sh wrote:Fun thread!
That can be easily fixed by not launching it until Sunday night.JDCookMS wrote:For some reason I can just imagine one getting stuck in the Man and setting it on fire....like, Tuesday night or something.wh..sh wrote:Fun thread!
Jack Rabbit Speaks wrote:AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT CHINESE SKY LANTERNS
In the last JRS, we included a post about a project that will be using Chinese sky lanterns ... those paper lanterns that you light a little candle inside and let them float up into the air ... they're really pretty as they drift away, glowing.
The problem is -- and thanks to our Fire Art Safety Team (FAST) for alerting us -- that they're also SUPER dangerous, especially in Black Rock City.
Beyond the MOOP factor, they can float off into the city and light a tent on fire ... and they can float off into the surrounding mountain ranges and start a wildfire. In fact, with the prevailing winds as they are, this is highly likely.
So, DO NOT USE CHINESE FIRE LANTERNS IN BLACK ROCK CITY. AT ALL. EVER.
