If you want another festival that centers around fire, but in a totally different way, check out the Festival de las Fallas over in Valencia. Basically these groups create massive satirical parodical statues of celebrities, politicians, etc. Then over a week there are crazy parades, "percussive" fireworks "concerts", masquerades, etc. This is capped by a "driving the devils out of town" parade with a crapton of fire and fireworks. Then, on the last night, they burn all the fallas statues to the ground. And they can get HUGE. It's not something I can do every year, but it's totally awesome. Plus, paella.
As for other festivals that don't require crossing the ocean, I generally make it to Coachella every year (this year will be my 11th). I also really like getting up to MUTEK in Montreal whien I can (usually ends up being every other year). In many respects it's the opposite of BM; lots of 'high concept' electronic music / video installations that inspire more "sit back and scratch your goatee in contemplation" sort of stuff. Even the straight up dance parties are of the more abstract/minimal variety.
