Are you part of a performance group that is auditioning to be in the great circle? Because even they don't get permits for the burn.

I'd love to see that- fire marshals attempting to inspect tools and permits for 1400+ people on burn night.

As stated above by members of CB, this is nothing new. And TTITD will keep going like it has been.

MDMF, this kind of permitting has little to do with safety in that context-The permit "test" doesn't require you to prove any knowledge of fire performance safety, and does not train you in such*. It does help clarify the chain of liability if there is an accident (venue hires non-permitted spinner, it's the venues fault for not following regs), and brings in some cash to the state.

By way of an example: I'm a felon. So's my wife. My kids are all under 21. None of us could get a permit. And yet, we run a successful fire conclave, perform at the burn and in defaultia, and I'll bet you dollars to donnerparty that my kids know more about fire performance safety than the person denying us a permit in NV.

*To my knowledge. Things may have changed.
Co: I am not part of a troupe/conclave. I spin solo and spit solo just for my own pleasure and to entertain others and if Im not pkaying I act as safety for the gal who is my safety while I am goofin around. It seems this law can be applied to anyone whether or not they are part of conclave. It looks like poi, staff, swords etc will have to be left home this year.

I just got off the phone with Susan Riolo. She is the Licensing Program Officer from the Nevada State Fire Marshal's office. I asked if they would be enforcing the new Nevada Fire Performer law at Burning Man. The answer is "NO - IT IS FEDERAL LAND AND IT IS NOT IN THEIR JURISDICTION."
So, again
THERE IS NO PERMIT OR LICENSE REQUIRED TO SPIN FIRE AT BURNINGMAN
We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.

Well, you can live in fear or you can just live. I'm willing to bet the fire marshal has better things to do.

I don't care what the borg says: feather-wearers will NOT be served in Rosie's Bar.
When I ask how many burns, I mean at BRC.

Hello BM PEEPS!!!

We NEVADAN residents have gone to the source in charge, FOR YOU!!! We have asked if YOU need a FM card? The Legal answer is NO!
GEEZE! One more time in the plainest English I can exude.

YOU DO NOT NEED A FIRE MARSHAL CARD TO PLAY WITH FIRE TOOLS AT BURNINGMAN 2012.
You need common sense, training and a safety personnel(because duh, your playing with fire!)

Oh Piney - you know that there will be more people that will post about this.
We have stated numerous times about the Nevada State Fire Marshal's stance on this and most people get it but some people don't.
It may never end until they get to BRC and realize that this is much ado about NOTHING.

wanting to join the ranks of the "WE" of JennyH and pinemon (and hoping to get thanks from trilobyte) i will post the source of my contention that was made as the first reply to this thread, just to reassure people.. because reassuring people feels good.

Fire Spinning this year on the playa

Hey everyone
Just spoke with crimson (fire queen of bm) and this is not true for the
playa

Only true for outside of burning man

(the "this" to which is being referred is the contention that one may need a license or permit to spin fire)

I doubt that this person would be making things up!
they sure do seem to be on the ball when it comes to the legal shenanigans of getting Fire done safely and legally within Chicago..

if you cant trust JennyH or pinemon for whatever reason: at least TRUST ME .. i believe the regional person from chicago when they make such a claim to have talked to crimson rose about the issue.. so should you!
