http://consumptionblog.com/2012/01/20/a ... ctability/Victoria, Australia (CN) – Australia’s sole academic journal concerned with cultural issues and stuff, Meanjin, recently published an article about Burning Man that has breathed new life into the slowly dying desert event.
The author of the article makes several controversial claims about Burning Man such as:
“I worried about the penises…”

Actually, I posted my first post before actually reading the original article.trilobyte wrote:Shill posts inflammatory comments in effort to drive page-views to blog post, film at eleven...
It's a good read. Well written and pretty accurate. Not close to what the OP's quotes from "the article about the article" would lead one to believe.
I definitely recommend taking the time to read the original and see for yourself http://meanjin.com.au/articles/post/burning-man/

It's just badly written satire on a badly written and inaccurate Burning Man travelogue, doesn't need to be highlighted by an overly officious moderator.trilobyte wrote:Shill posts inflammatory comments in effort to drive page-views to blog post, film at eleven...

As a hobby I enjoy writing 'The Onion' style articles about an event I love that takes place north of Reno and sharing them with other Burners - some people like them, some don't, most don't care...I make and strive to continue to make $Zero for my efforts...trilobyte wrote:Shill posts inflammatory comments in effort to drive page-views to blog post, film at eleven...

Some people Don't like them. Some people don't like the Smell of Bullshit.
it is a poor writer that has a hobby that emulates satire jounalisim. a bad writer would defend it as art.

Read Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet I'll try to see if they have it in a picture book format for you.

you know me too well!!knowmad wrote:I'll try to see if they have it in a picture book format for you.
i prefer picture books. in fact, i make them from time to time..

anyways..im not so sure i agree that the best writing happens in a vacuum, some writing that is good may..
we were made to read some of that 'young poet' stuff in school.. some of it sure is neat! but it hardly has the longevity of William Shakesman.
i have been enamored with this little bit of a book of words for many years, about creating things in a vacuum:
Imagine attempting to engage with an alternative music scene having only listened to your grandparent’s country collection. This could be interesting in an oddball conceptual way, but your exchange will be a lot more richer if you have studied and are familiar with lots of music, both mainstream and obscure.

One of the best books I ever "read" had not a single word of text in it. It was actually a series of books by a Japanese author and each was about his travels on foot through a different country in Europe. Each page was illustrates with a road that went across it (and him walking on it) showing the different things that he saw, both great and small. wish I could remember the name of the author.
