How about this ya big Blue Dane?

On Sunday night, dispatchers received a 911 call from a resident at 5300 West National Road and reported that there was an unknown person on their front porch armed with a rifle.

The caller said that prior to the individual being on the front porch, the residents heard what they believed was a prowler outside the residence.

The residents of the house took safety in the basement. Deputies arrived and found a white man dressed in jean overalls and a red and grey sweatshirt sitting on the front porch with a long gun in his lap.

Deputies said they tried to give the person verbal commands, but got no response. Deputies were able to approach the subject from behind and discovered that the individual was a mannequin and that the firearm it was holding was a toy shotgun.

Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Amusing article. I would certainly rule out Will Rogers and Mark Twain -- not their type of personality at all. But I wonder how out-dated the concept is....

Does this picture make anyone else feel like their eyes are focusing at first? It goes away, but for the first second I feel like I can't see straight.

My job is people-work, and in people-work, there are always WTF moments.

One day at my old job (lone night worker at a hostel for homeless young people) i was just doing some paperwork when one of the residents ran into the office and shouted "I've just seen a bush with legs!"

We went out into the street and there was some guy running along the street with one of the neighbour's shrubs which he was clearly in the process of stealing.

I laughed so hard. We hated our neighbours anyway

it is disorientating, probably because we expect to see faces, so when we see an almost-face our brains go: boi---oing!

Okay... I know I'm in Mississippi and can't really talk about other states... but WTF is up with Tennessee? They're already trying to pass a bill where it would be illegal to say the word "gay" in schools...and now the Tea Party there is trying to write slavery out of the textbooks.
The material calls for lawmakers to amend state laws governing school curriculums, and for textbook selection criteria to say that “No portrayal of minority experience in the history which actually occurred shall obscure the experience or contributions of the Founding Fathers, or the majority of citizens, including those who reached positions of leadership.”

Fayette County attorney Hal Rounds, the group’s lead spokesman during the news conference, said the group wants to address “an awful lot of made-up criticism about, for instance, the founders intruding on the Indians or having slaves or being hypocrites in one way or another.

“The thing we need to focus on about the founders is that, given the social structure of their time, they were revolutionaries who brought liberty into a world where it hadn’t existed, to everybody — not all equally instantly — and it was their progress that we need to look at,” said Rounds, whose website identifies him as a Vietnam War veteran of the Air Force and FedEx retiree who became a lawyer in 1995.

It's probably people who need to think that "America" is better than anyone else and always has been. (And probably bless by god, but that's a different problem.) So admitting that Washington and Jefferson where slave owners is just too threatening to their image of the country.
Now, I'm going to say that teaching kids about slavery and other other than savory aspects of our past is a tricky business. But, that happy uncomplicated thing that they want to give is not helping. It's like letting kids eat candy and no vegetables.
