Re: Rest In Peace
My fish BloopBloop died today. He was a Betta. A good fish and a damned good listener. He seemed to remind me, when it was feeding time, when he'd swim like crazy by the fish food jar. He will be cremated on Saturday, along with our burning reindeer.

Re: Rest In Peace
Tom, my condolences on the loss of your betta fish. Losing a fish can be very hard, but this time of year makes it even worse. I know your Christmases will never be the same, but I hope the new year brings you some peace and closure.

Re: Rest In Peace
Naked Al, of Naked Al's tattoos in Bakersfield, Ca, was found dead of an overdose in his shop this morning. Al placed himself in a recovery home, after a near fatal overdose a couple months back. He decided he was ready to go back out in the world, and left the house three weeks ago. He will be missed.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend GoatHead ((((big hug)))) from me too.

Re: Rest In Peace
RIP Abernathy
Abernathy was a sweet dog, who we adopted from the shelter last summer. She ("Wilma" when we met her) had come from an abusive home, lost her left eyeball (looked like she was winking at us all the time), was one of those Spuds McKenzie/Bud dogs, white with big black spots. Owner left her & her sister at the shelter to be put down. We saw her in the newspaper & fell in love instantly. She needed a loving home & we had been wanting to rescue a dog. 3-4 years old is what they told us. Abby was really friendly & snuggable, great with kids (Jasper loved giving her loves & asking her, "Why do you only have one eye, Abby???"), she played well, was quiet & mellow, enjoyed her long naps curled up cozy, and she totally loved to dance in the sprinkler!! She'd go freaking nutso, doing a funny dance around any garden hose -- didn't matter if it was on or off.
RIP Feather
He was my new turquoise betta fish. Was so excited when I first saw him, never had one before, always wanted one. Got an aquarium, pump, food, pretty rocks, set up the whole nine yards. He was soooooo pretty....looked like a feather in the wind when he swam. Lived a week. It was a nice week, though. I'm just not good with fish. I think I overfed him.
Hey! They both loved water, now didn't they? They're probably both playing in a sprinkler together somewhere...

Re: Rest In Peace
Thanks MA. From the garden & from my kitchen window, I can see her final resting spot. Jasper wants to know where Abby is. Gramma (me) finds some answers to my grandson's questions difficult. He's 3. I'm not sure what to tell him. I told him what my foster mom once told me when I was 4 yrs old and our PittyPat died, or what I told my Sammi when she was 10 and our 3 cats died (they were poisoned by a neighbor).....that all the Animals we ever loved go to sleep and wake up on the Other Side where there's a Rainbow Bridge they all cross over, they see lots of animals to play with, and they're soooo happy to play again -- cuz they're not sick, their bodies are young again, and there's lots of meadows & lakes & rivers there to play by. I don't know where we all go when we die. Christianity teaches that we go to heaven to be with the Father. I'm not a Christian. Buddhism teaches me that our essence/spirit exits leave this earthly body, we reincarnate, & we come back to learn more life lessons. That's hard for a child to understand. Explain spirit to a 3 year old. I try. I guess the Rainbow Bridge explanation is gonna have to do for now.
THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Author unknown
brings a tear to my eye every time.

Re: Rest In Peace
*tears* Monkeypoo, that was a beautiful tribute. When my beloved freeta died, and I got her ashes back, she was sent home in her urn and a beautiful velvet drawstring bag that said, "Until we meet at the Rainbow Bridge". it's been a few years now and I still miss her so.

Re: Rest In Peace
At about 1:30am (PST) on January 30, 2012, we watched the matriarch of our menagerie, Alley, breath her last
. She has had thyroid issues for the past year or so and has been on Methimazole since then. She fought hard but has slowly dwindled, getting frail and losing weight. This past Monday she gave up. She stopped eating. She drank water up til around four hours prior to her passing.
We found her as a stray on Memmorial Day weekend 1999. We were still living in Pennsylvania. We did what we could to get rid of her, but she persisted until we took her in. She was 1, maybe 2 years old then. In July 2000, while moving here to Nevada, we stopped at a rest area between Champagin Ill and Bloomington Ill. We let her out of her cage and she ran straight to a pine tree and climbed about 10 feet up it. I had to unpack a ladder to climb it to get her
. While traveling through Wyoming, she got the hershy squirts. Don't know if it was the altitude or riding in a Penske truck for the last four days that caused it
.Several times a week she would wake us around 4:00am to be fed. When we would sit down for dinner she would come caterwallin (edit spelling) for something to eat. She would even jump on the table and beg. Two times she swiped food from my wifes plate. Once it was chicken from Pollo Loco and another time it was a pork chop
.
We're gonna take her to a place in Reno to be creamated. The same place we took OWL in 2009.
Hope we gave you a good life for the short 12years and 8 months Alley!
RIP in Kitty Heaven
