My hands are in pretty bad shape. The Jergens "extra healing" stuff didn't do squat.
Has anyone found anything that actually prevents playa hands? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
What's the best hand lotion?
My hands were hurting pretty bad after dinging them up while getting my structure/tent put together. I found that being religious with bandaids over any exposed skin cracks or cuts, plus using a Dr. Bronner's wash & vinegar rinse actually brought them back to pretty good shape by midweek. Basically just cover open wounds to keep dust out, use Neosporin if you have it, and apply the same conditioning as you would to feet from the get-go.
The bandaids were really important, as the few times that I forgot to put them on before taking off were really painful.

ooooohhhhhh......
My hands and feet were a mess when I got off the playa. A vineger wash will neutralize the alkaline playa dust and then wash with soap and plain water a couple of times and then dry and apply lotion. Mmmmm, soft as a babies ass.

Curel lotion is the theeeeeeeeee shit
I am a carpenter for a living in the real world, so I generally have rough caloused (don't think that is spelled right)hands, but while on the playa I used "Curel" ultra healing lotion3 times a day and my hands were way softer when I left than when I got there,as a matter of fact I actually got teased by a girl about how soft they were, so my hat is off to the people who make that stuff. I think I bought bought it at wal-mart or walgreens .
for the last four burns I've been pretty religious about the regular hand /foot cleaning ritual of babywipes,a sqirt bottle of cider vinegar and a generous slathering of aloe vera. DO keep nailclippers around for snipping those pesky cuticles off before they tear off major portions of skin, leaving those painful open sores around the finger tips. best avoid clothing with pockets (my cowboy boots did wonders for carrying moop tin, cigs & other stuff)
After fogetting the sunblock one burn, All I had was coconut oil & cocoa butter. greasy? yes but was able to run around all day & not get sunburnt. (maybe it was all the playadust sticking to it that effected a perfect sunblock) anyway, it moisturizes hands better than any commercial lotion I've ever used up there.

dream cream is a dream!
our camp was religously using aroma crystal therapy 'dream cream' - its all natural and will cure any ailment - we brought a huge jug of it and everyone who passed through was happy (including the jackass that took about half of it and decided to give his entire body a rubdown)
its hard to track down, but if you contact the company www.aromacrystal.com they can tell you the closest place to get it - if you are immediately hard up, i can send you some sample packs i have
hope they heal!
