Post Apocalyptic Bedoin

First time burner here! My husband and I are going for the first time this year and I've been thinking of clothing ideas and I came up with this idea. I'm going to try and do a sort of playa fashion line with the theme being "Post Apocalyptic Bedoin". I've begun sketching out ideas and making purchases that reflect my ideas. So, I thought I would post my sketches here as I make them as well as any purchases made to reflect the idea. So, to start things off this is my first outfit - The inspiration was made when watching videos of the dust storms on the playa. I was inspired by how people appeared out of nowhere, as if made of the sand themselves.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I want to make things fashionable but functional - I want to be able to wear things I wouldn't normally. Burning man for me is breaking away from what confines me at home.

Oh! Oh ... oh ... oh .... I REALLY like that idea! Post-apocalyptic is dear to my heart ... but merge that with Bedouin ... and I can see opportunities all over the place. I was thinking steampunk for this year, but now .....

I really like your sketch!

I also kind of veer toward the Post Apocalyptic Bedouin look. I like "ethnic" stuff and it is also practical for the desert and dust.

Would love to see your nighttime version too.

Actually, I did plan on taking a SHIT TON of sketching/drawing/painting stuff and do caricatures of people as gifts, or even just sketching them.

I really like the idea of gifting art, as it is a gift/art economy. As an update, I got my shemagh yesterday and it is pretty much the coolest headgear ever.

One word of experience: sketches on the playa tend to get trashed unless you have a way to back them, even cardboard will do. Charcoal is wretched, and black paper is nearly useless.

I give away art, two years ago I got some wonderful sketches from Nude Model Camp (not an accurate name), but I had to bring them home and stick them to something before I could hang them for gifting. Usually when I get donations of drawings, they come back with me to get a makeover for sturdiness.

My plan is to buy a whole bunch of frames at goodwill in order to protect the drawings in the playa. I don't use charcoal often, too messy. So, the plan is to draw the picture, frame it really quick, and gift it to the person.

Add a army grad camel back to that ensemble and you will be set to go for hours out on the open playa! PS best to pick up on ebay as I got mine for 1/2 the retail price

For the functional bedoin look, I highly recommend getting a keffiyeh scarves. I wore one last year and it served many uses. Looked great too especially since you can tie them so many different ways (head, neck or body)

I actually got mine just the other day. It's the perfect color of tan and everything!

Pink Burka, Hawaiian Muu-muu with beachcomber's strawhat, poncho and sombrero, pajamas and turban; all are similar but I prefer a cowboy's 4 foot square gladrag, red unionsuit and Longhunter's fedora.

I camped with someone last year that needed to avoid sun exposure due to the medication she was on. We wrapped her up in light weight sarongs, and had her carry a parasol around. Sun protection is easily achieved. Don't forget the sunscreen!
