Since it has been brough up. I have followed this for some time. Vivid Seats and Stub Hub, two well known legit vendors, have claimed Burning Man Tickets for a month or more already. Must have got a stash of those pre-sales. This might be something the Burning Man crew should look into. They are selling in the $650.00 - $800.00, depending how many tickets you buy. I know that vivid seats is legit, because I have bought from them numerous times for sporting events.
Here is the email I sent to STUBHUB via their contact page:
SUBJECT: Speculative Ticket Sales Found

Greetings!

It has come to my attention that there are on offer 80 tickets for sale for an event where none of the tickets are actually possessed by the individuals offering them for sale.

The STUBHUB user agreement refers to this type of item as a "SPECULATIVE TICKET ". (section 2.1a(III)

"Speculative tickets or 'spec tickets' are tickets that are listed for sale or sold before the seller actually owns the tickets. Listing or selling speculative tickets is not permitted. StubHub reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to remove your listing, cancel a sale, require you to send your tickets to the Buyer within a specific time after your tickets sell, issue you a warning, or temporarily or permanently suspend you from using StubHub's Site or Services if it suspects you of listing or selling speculative tickets."

(source: http://www.stubhub.com/user_agreement/ )

It should be known that All of the tickets for this event are "SPECULATIVE TICKET" sales:

Burning Man 2012

(source: http://linktoburningmanticketsonstubhubremoved )

Confirmation of "SPECULATIVE TICKET" Status is found here:

"Physical tickets from ALL THREE sales (except those that were designated to be held at Will Call, which includes most international orders) will be mailed in June 2012."

(source:http://tickets.burningman.com/)

Todays Date is February 1 2012. As tickets will not be mailed until June 2012 All of the tickets listed for this event are in fact "SPECULATIVE TICKETS"

I know that STUBHUB is very concerned about the interests of its customers. I would hope to see that these listings be removed before any customer unknowingly buys a "SPECULATIVE TICKET"

I believe that STUBHUB is very concerned about the protection of its customers, this can be seen in the FANPROTECT GUARANTEE.

I would hope that STUBHUB, a name that many people have come to trust, would stand up to its commitment to protect its customers by removing all of the listings for the "BURNING MAN 2012" event until such time as the tickets are actually in the hands of the individuals selling the tickets (June 2012).

Thank you for your time!

-Sincerely:

A concerned Customer.

It is unfair for me to tell other people to stay strong since I got a ticket, but please stay strong!!!

The way I.. and at least one other... read the user agreement, it is not legit

Of course, it would be an argument over the words "OWNS" and "POSSESS" ... can you truly own a thing you dont possess?

Hey everybody! At work this morning, waiting for my first groom dog to get here. My husband registed for a $240 ticket for himself, (I registered for 2 $320 for me and a friend), but no e-mail for the hubbs yet. Trying to keep the hope up today! Actually, I don't feel too worried, strangely. I know we'll make it and we'll see you in the dust!

Man I love that long letter. BTW, when I say that Vivid Seats and Stub Hub are legitimate, I mean they would protect the sale. Kind of like using a PayPal account.
Vivid Seats and Stub Hub, would cover any transactions that went south for the consumer. I do not mean to suggest the tickets themselves are available.
I feel like I've finally arrived... wait it's not August.

"Speculative tickets or 'spec tickets' are tickets that are listed for sale or sold before the seller actually owns the tickets. Listing or selling speculative tickets is not permitted. I applaud your effort - please keep it up. However, I am concerned that you still may not need the physical tickets. I am pretty sure that a lot of NFL season ticket holders routinely list their tickets before they actually receive the ticket packet in the mail. But any effort to gum up the works is valuable. The good thing is that out of what is likely now over 20,000 tickets distributed, there are only 80 on Stubhub. That is under 0.5%.

Here is a crazy idea:

If I understand correctly, according to actual law, the Queen of England has to stamp Australian laws - or something like that - before they are official. The officers of the Queen have long stated that they agree never to use this power to refuse to ratify a law.

What if names were printed on tickets, and they were clearly marked as NON TRANSFERABLE. They would also state clearly that the name *might* be checked at the gate, and if the name does not match, you will be denied entry. Technically, tickets could not be sold outside of STEP, and official policy would state this.

What if then, the gate just generally agreed within the community that they would "probably not" actually check the names?

Then all sales outside of STEP would technically violate all agreements. People could just legally buy tickets on StubHub, then throw a shitfit when they came in, and get the refund.

Don't know if it will do any good, but for what it is worth, I've stuck my foot in it---

[link removed]

I want this Stub Hub Burning Man ticket sale removed. This sale is in violation of your own policies. You do not have the tickets in your possession.

To promote safe selling of event tickets on eBay and to make sure the sales follow all laws related to tickets sales, we've developed standards for professional conduct for selling tickets on eBay. These standards neither replace nor dismiss eBay's general seller rules and policies, but rather supplement those rules. Sellers need to follow these guidelines when selling tickets on eBay.
I agree not to sell, trade, produce, or advertise tickets that I do not have in my possession.
I agree not to participate in any way in the advertisement, sale, or trade of any ticket using any deceptive practices including, but not limited to, false or misleading claims of sales scarcity, face value, or current value.
I agree to promptly refund the purchase price for any ticket which has been deemed by the venue to be counterfeit or unacceptable for gaining entry to an event.
I agree to abide by all federal, state, and local laws relating to the tickets sales

It's all good! It's nice to have the money right now to use for some things. We're buying a new vehicle (hubby won't tell me what kind), and we have some bills coming up. :D There's always STEP and I plan to utilize that as much as possible. No scalpers for me! Plus, I think I'll reward myself tomorrow with a no-ticket shopping splurge for burningman clothes. After all, if I have the clothes - I HAVE to go. LOL Congratulations to everyone who got tickets though, looking forward to seeing you all in the dust!

Does anyone know how far along they are in ticket sales? Like an estimate of how many might be left or when the drawing ends? If I registered for 2 tickets @ 320, is there a chance I can still get them at the lowest tier? *freaking out*

I am really happy for those who got tickets... very sad to see scalpers already offering so many tickets at an over-inflated price.

Still no joy for me too... I assume it's over and the fat lady is about to sing. Looks like there are more than a few of us.

Guess I'll get to experience STEP or try my luck (and my internet connection) at the open sale.

If they only got one, it's because that's what they had in their registration info. The system draws the name, and fulfills the order completely… no partials.

Seriously why could they not have done one ticket for one person at one price? Make it unable to buy multiple tickets. Have tickets tied to your name and id so they are non-transferable. Last year, I got on the site as soon as it opened and waited a few hours to buy tickets. This year we're penalized because people waited to long to buy their ticket? And, instead this guy gets 2 tickets?

oh it was delicious. kashi go lean crisp cinnamon w vanilla almond milk. the drawing started while i was at work, and after work i went stress-grocery shopping (to avoid looking at my computer and phone) and ended up finding the one natural grocery store in the area. it was a win, but i ended up spending a lot more than i had originally planned (I planned to go in and buy a sandwich)
