What do you ask a politician @ dinnertime??

Post by Monkeypoo » Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:48 am

I was invited to dinner tonight at a friend's home to meet Norman Soloman, CA 2nd district candidate for the House of Representatives.
I've read up on him the past 2 days. It should be an interesting evening, I hope. We need change in this country. It's way past due.

Maybe I'll ask him if he's ever been to Burning Man. :)

It depends on how involved you are politically and how diplomatic you want to be, and the tenor of the evening.

Some people are more eager for involved discussions than others.

I was with a group of jounalists, politicians, attorneys, teachers, etc recently.
Subjects ranged from polite chitchat to political activism, investigative journalism, federal case law and war stories.

Pick a range between 'pass the sweet and sour shrimp' and 'we will kil all the infidels'.

I would definitely open with the Burning Man question.
Then I'd ask, who pays the best bribes.
And finish with how much does it cost to buy a 'get out of jail' card? And is he willing to trade a card for some manual labor service you could provide, such as paint his house, mow his lawn, or pass him the salt?
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

Ask him not to fart so high.
Dance in the heart of chaos. . . . .

LOL :)

Okay, dinner was great. I listened well. He's Grassroots, real, I trust him. He's UP with OCCUPY and DOWN with Wall Street!!!

Anyway, we talked about Wall Street, how our elected officials are corrupted by corporations & Wall Street....talk about wars, the deficit, Iran, Afghanistan... HE doesn't take ANY contributions from corporations. Zero.

Later, he mentioned that his campaign is made up of 750 volunteers thus far (grassroots people!) in our district. I shared with him how I had read an article where this county somewhere had eliminated a government position, a woman commented to the politician saying, "Why don't we pick up the slack and get volunteers to help us?" The politician had replied, "Volunteers??? No one can accomplish anything with volunteers!!" Huh???

After I told my story -- this was my chance -- I asked Norman, "Ever been to Burning Man?? We create a City in the Desert for a week every year -- ALL volunteers. A lot can be accomplished with folks volunteering. BM is proof."" His answer was that "he has heard of Burning Man, but hasn't been there yet." YET. There's hope. :)

PS: I am now a volunteer with Norman Soloman's campaign for the Congress. When it was time to leave, he shook my hand, welcomed me onboard, and I told him, "Cool. Now go OCCUPY CONGRESS!!!!"
