There is that... How about a Northwest Nevada Regional?
Seriously - since the playa is limited to what, 58K, maybe it's time to start a new event...
Apparently the demand is there.

it just seems reminiscent of all the disappointment people feel with the govt. they don't wanna give us health care, legalized ganja, jobs, etc, etc? well shit, we've got the numbers to do whatever we want and need. as if bmorg is what unites the community.
i'm not trying to discourage bmorg from putting on a wonderful event or people from attending. and i am truly disappointed that i may not get to attend this event for a second time that changed my whole life last year. but on the real, everyone is upset that they aren't able to get into someone else's party. why not just organize another one. either that or wait til 2013.

Agreed, let's get something going somewhere else. This is a sign of change (not good or bad). Anyone know of any other spots... joshua tree?

These are called "Orphan Burns" and there were a number of them all over the US last year. It is a workable idea. You can't call them Burning Man(s), that is copyright protected. If they are too big, you'll need permits and insurance and such. Family reunion, anyone?

for sure- burning man is burning man. but it is a tool. it facilitates people coming together- something sorely sorely needed in the world right now. if burning man does its part by bringing 50,000 people together once a year, imagine what would happen if everyone had events goin on. and shit, instead of waiting til sept it should be happening multiple times a year. afterall, 50,000 people is an insanely small fraction of the worlds population. burning man 365 all over the world!!!

I take it you're not familiar with the worldwide network of Regionals then. There are events going on multiple times a year (some of them with the same "lottery" system to get in because they've also passed the supply/demand thresh-hold, even though it's smaller than The Main Event)imalsoknownas wrote:if burning man does its part by bringing 50,000 people together once a year, imagine what would happen if everyone had events goin on. and shit, instead of waiting til sept it should be happening multiple times a year.
